psquared Posted October 10, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted October 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a happy camper! I just got my R9 back from NJ after the photocell was replaced. It only took 10 weeks. I took it out for an outing at the Sepulveda Dam Wildlife Reservation in Los Angeles, California. It was the first time using the DMR firmware v1.3. I had only a short time to shoot and was able to capture these: Â Black Phoebe 800/5.6 + 1.4X APO Â Killdeer 800/5.6 + 1.4X APO Â After the sunset came a Black-crowned Night Heron 800/5.6 at ISO800, which is usable with v1.3 The multiple black spots are not noise, but flies that were flying around in great numbers. Â Thanks for looking, Peter

imported_peter_m Posted October 10, 2007 Share #5  Posted October 10, 2007 Looks like it is working perfect again  The 800 plus extender is quite the gun on the DMR..... some very nice results.  Peter
psquared Posted October 10, 2007 Author Share #6 Â Posted October 10, 2007 Thank you Luigi, Charles, Oscar, Marina, and Peter. Â Luigi, I'm using the module system, so it was the 400mm head + 2X module. I think the system works well even with the 1.4X extender on it, Peter. Â All these pictures are crops, some more than others. The phoebe was relatively close, but the heron and the killdeer were in the middle of a wide stream. I didn't have my boots on, so I couldn't get closer. So, even with 1500mm + effective focal length, I still had to crop.
elansprint72 Posted October 10, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted October 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Peter, It looks like it was worth the wait! #2 is really superb. I'm no bird expert but that looks like what we, in the UK, call a Ringed Plover; they race in and out with each wave at enormous speed; you have done very well to catch this one in such a good pose. psquared Posted October 10, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted October 10, 2007 Hi Pete, Â Thanks for the comment. Killdeer and ringed plover are similar, indeed, in external appearances and habits, esp. feigning a broken wing to lead predators away from the nest. They are different species, however, and their ranges are different. The killdeer are in the Americas and ringed plovers are in Eurasia. The killdeer has 2 dark neck bands whereas the ringed plover has one. The killdeer has a black bill and ringed plover has a yellow and black bill. The killdeer has a distinctive orange-red eye ring. But they do look similar. Just in case you're wondering, I just looked these up. Â Cheers, Peter
