k-hawinkler Posted April 17, 2012 Author Share #4 Â Posted April 17, 2012 Stuart, Â Thank you for your feedback. I always appreciate it. Â The slope you see is actually the correct slope of the landscape. I shot this image on a tripod with SONY NEX-7 + Leica (WATE) TRI-ELMAR-M 1:4/16-18-21 ASPH, paying particular attention to level the camera precisely. The NEX-7 has the best virtual horizon of any camera I ever dealt with. It lets you level the camera from left to right and from front to back, both on the LCD and Viewfinder. It's a pleasure to use. Â I find it even easier to use than the bubble level in the Leica Frankenfinder. Â If you look carefully at the picture, in between the trees is a power line. Their poles pretty much point straight up. Â Â Paul, Â Thank you. I am sometimes still struggling with the colors, but I think this time the image reflects what I saw. ACR's clarity slider indeed works extremely well, especially in CS6.

k-hawinkler Posted April 18, 2012 Author Share #6  Posted April 18, 2012 You see, this can only HAPPEN in colour.. ... great shot..whats off in the sky top right? Is it a shooting star/ jet? Thanks for sharing  Cheers, JRM  Hi JRM,  Thanks for your feedback. Yup, only in color. I tried B&W, but in this case, whatever I came up with, couldn't compete in terms of visual impact.  Top right is a jet with its contrail, flying into the picture. I thought that added a nice touch. So the picture covers the rocky material, blown from a nearby volcano just a few million years ago, to the latest jet planes. Around here there are a lot contrails of jets crisscrossing the country, as you know.  BTW, I am really impressed with the WATE on the NEX-7. I can't discover the slightest red edge when used with the NEX-7. Of course, my NEX-7 shows a color cast with the 21/2.8, 28/2.8 and 28/2 Leica lenses. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/2032652-post46.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/2033391-post51.html  If I want to go really wide, then I use my M9 with the WATE or a Nikon D3, (D800E in the future) with the 14-24/2.8. However, with a crop factor of 1.5x, 16, 18, and 21 mm translate into an equivalent virtual field of view of 24, 27, and 32 mm of a full frame 35mm camera. That's very useful as well.  If I did the math correctly, then the Nikon D800/E would need to have well in excess of 50 MP (57.1 MP to be exact) to match the pixel density of the NEX-7. So, I am trying to avoid motion blur for the NEX-7 with the use of a tripod. Of course, with the NEX-7 or NEX-5N one doesn't have to worry about mirror shake. And focus peaking mostly works. If not, one can always use magnification on a tripod.  Thanks again for your feedback. I always welcome it.
leicamann Posted April 18, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted April 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Pixel Real Estate and value per pixel coming from the Nikon D800E is absolutely stellar, its a fabulous camera..so I wouldn't brush it off that quickly, also there are many fine lenses that would marry with this camera and produce excellent quality results. allamande Posted April 18, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted April 18, 2012 I love the sense of space and time this image conveys so effortlessly (I agree that color plays a big role in this), and the jet flying (out to Cal?) over this marvelously mysterious landscape pulls it all to a higher dimension. I am glad you don't. Neither do I. I pre-ordered my D800E from Amazon within 24 hours after the announcement. That tardiness most likely will make me wait for months.  BTW, all my lenses that can focus to infinity on my Nikons can also be used that way on the NEXs. But the reverse isn't true. k-hawinkler Posted April 20, 2012 Author Share #12 Â Posted April 20, 2012 Ece, Thank you. The jet could be flying to CA, but more likely to Phoenix, the way its headed. We'll never know! Â Ben, Thank you. I agree. The magic hour is my favorite time to shoot as well. Â Virgil, Thank you. Computers do the arithmetic correctly - most of the time. It's the conceptual errors I worry about.
