Why aren’t the SL APO primes more popular for filmmakers?
hansvons replied to AndrewGregory's topic in Leica SL System
The APO primes are AF still lenses and not cine primes. Filmmakers want proper manual focus. And often they are looking for moody flares and other "issues" the APO primes deliberately don't provide. There’s a large market of cine lenses spanning from 100k and more (zooms) to 500 Euros (cheap Chinese glass). Most well-known TV shows and movies are shot on expensive cine glass that exceeds the APO price tag by a magnitude and is made by Zeiss, Cooke, Panavision and Leitz. For private projects, I use Leica R primes which are pretty good makeshift cine lenses. -

Have you tried using a calibrated grey card to aid your evaluation? It leads the way to cleaner and more pleasing colours.

Issues with my new Q3 today :(
sugsug replied to WeekendWarrior's topic in Leica Q3 / Leica Q2 / Leica Q
Someone is a drama queen. Anyway, I think that most people would format their SD card in camera as it is obviously the easiest and safest way to do so. I myself always format in camera after transferring files. -
More of a "philosophical" comment than a rigid answer to the question: -Why do we focus so much on comparisons, differences and rankings? I know out of myself, that it is very easy to fall in in these mentalities. I.e. I fall in there myself. But I actually want to be strong enough not to. Some examples: Has camera X become worse because the newly launched Camera Y is better? No! X is exactly the same regardless of what's around it. Is the difference important? Is it important to ME, regarding the usability or regarding image-result? Yes or no? Is the difference important just because the difference is there and is easily noticeable? Yes or no? Do Camera X have some disturbing issues or some disturbingly low performance when I use it or look at the resulting images from it? Yes or no? How deep do I have to "dig" in peeping to discover differences or faults? Can I easily see differences when still looking at the whole image, edge to edge? If I can, is the difference just a difference or is there something wrong with one of it? Are the different images just different but both good? Are both bad? 😵 Is one of the cameras better than the other but NONE of them is very good? Are both very good? And finally and maybe the most important question: What do I think MYSELF? Can I at all judge the matter by myself? Do I NEED comparing and ranking to make up my mind? This is very hard, I know. But it is worth the mental challenge! 🙂

Ugh. Brand new Leica lens question.. well 1.4x actually
Boojay replied to ALScott's topic in L-Mount Lenses
Will have zero impact but given you have no body, why not just get it changed while you wait😃.. you must be a very patient human being, the thought of all those lenses sitting doing nothing while waiting goodness knows how long would drive me nuts!!! -
Both are fabulous, but the first is me wins for me with this striking pose and the ply with the veil. Perfect lighting too! Thanks for sharing!

If you don’t have 6-bit coding you might consider it and get the lens cleaned and checked at same time? I just sent a chrome version in to do that and just get a CLA.
