Hi Julian -- I can only confirm Ict's view (and I think I have or had any 90 with M-mount): go for the Rokkor 4/90. Its performance is extremely close to the Macro-Elmar-M - which is really state-of-the-art, but much more expensive. Stay away from the Tele-Elmarit: Its small, but the flare issues require too much attention in order to avoid significant frustration. And taking pictures should not be about working around deficiencies of the equipment. Consider the Elmarit-M or Summarit in case you really need the 2.8

totally agree mls1483. Also n0 noticeable focus shift, hardly any flare and working well from portrait to infinity. Same allrounder perfection as the Summilux 50 ASPH, C-Biogon 35 or the Elmarit-M 90: reliably producing excellent results beyond test results and data sheets

does anybody know the difference between the two version made in Canada? One is called Tele-Elmarit and the other version Telle Elmarit M (later version); there seems to be a difference in the coating you can detect by the color of the reflections....

... the Distagon 18mm ist an excellent lense: sharp, crisp, very little distortion and no problems with flare. No gap of any sort compared to the Leica equivalent. When considering the 50: rather go with the Planar 50, maybe the Summicron IV (some focus shift but not a lot), but be careful with the Sonnar-C 50; this lens has an amount of focus shift that is not easy to deal with. Consider the Elmar 50 (new version): excellent performance, very small and affordable...
