  1. I rather fancy the crop modes to simulate 35, 50, & 75 lenses. But an even better attraction for me is the “Macro” function. I must say I’m giving this camera a lot of thought. I’d rather have a native 50 that would crop to 75 & 90, but that’s just me. I’d never given the Q series a second thought until now. I was all set for an M10M, but the (slightly) smaller size and not carrying two lens, plus the in-camera filters is quite enticing.
  2. Wow! I’m thinking this would be a perfect travel camera - too bad that “travel” as I know it is virtually impossible.
  3. I still shoot my M8.2. Not as much as I used to, but love pulling it out and firing off a few images every now and then. IMO, the 8.2 images stand up well against current equipment especially if you don’t need big prints. That said a television show blew up my bw images to 40” with no problem for use as bg material. The CCD Kodak sensor was/is very special. Seriously, after all these years not many sensors can match it. It’s not all about mp’s but in the way the image is perceived. Leica M’s are tools for expressive photographers. The only limiting factor is creative ability. If you are just beginning you can grow into the camera, for experienced photographers it gets out of the way and lets them create the images they visualize.
  4. A couple of questions, one which i asked in Jono’s thread but I’m sure he didn’t know. will there be a chrome version? who makes the sensor? One person said Sony, but is that correct?
  5. Thanks, Jono, for your usual concise informative review. Will there be a classic chrome version?
  6. Once again Leica produces a lens no one asked for!
  7. Acquired a mint example over a year ago. Only 4K clicks. It is treasured. Of course I had one earlier, but missed it so much I bided my time until the right one hit the market. These things run in spurts - hardly any available for a certain period and then whammo! several come on the market at the same time.
  8. Thank you, Bud, for this thread. So far this year I’ve only managed two trips. Portugal with an M9-P/90 Elmarit M (just not a wide angle guy!) and Canada with a Nikon Z7/24-70 f4. The Leica gave me about 30% more keepers! Admittedly the Nikon is much better with the 50 1.8, which I left at home - holy cow the thing is huge, and while I was hoping the zoom would give me more versatility, it actually didn’t work out that way. Leica M’s rule!
  9. I’m traveling with my M9P right now and had an interesting battery situation. I carry my spare battery in the charger in a separate plastic bag. The spare battery was charged to 100% before leaving. When It came time to use the spare battery it was dead. I re-charged it and then it was fine. Apparently in some way leaving the spare in the charger discharged the battery. Anyone else experience this problem?
  10. Totally agree with Scott. When my M8 was around three years old several people reported cratered shutters and there was at least one graphic image posted. I sold mine due to those concerns. Really missed the 1/8000 shutter speed, though. On my second M8.2 now but never a problem. I am in Portugal vacationing right now and having a lovely time with the M9-P. For me the FF gives me more options. I find the battery info on the top cover of the M8 to be annoying, but battery life (for me) is worse on the M8 so I suppose it has its use. Both of these bodies still appeal greatly for me due to their simplicity, CCD sensor and lovely bw conversion tonality. BTW, while I have seen others carrying or shooting Leica’s in America, until yesterday I had never seen anyone in Europe with one. I was shooting in the Chiado district of Lisbon and not one but two Leica shooters walked over to say hello. One had a very nice M7 and the other an SL and an M I wasn’t able to identify.
  11. Leaving for Europe next week with M9-P and two lenses. I could take my Z7 but the M is so more discrete. ‘Nuf said.
  12. With what’s been announced by the competition and the new Panasonic (potential Leica SL2?) methinks the S3 will be stillborn. Those beta samples, if they exist, could become real collector items.
  13. Since I last posted I have acquired a 90 Elmarit-M. No magnifier needed.
