  1. Just go check his site now. I cannot believe that anybody could claim to have any ability as a photographer after posting such a picture of two innocent kids. That he made that picture is bad enough, but that he felt it worthy of posting, to me, discredits anything he might ever say that relates in any way to photography.
  2. The spots are too sharp to be caused by the lens or filter. This looks more like a dirty sensor to me. Have you tried cleaning the sensor recently? Jacques
  3. Carl, I am not sure how the ordering works in Norway, but on the US Apple Store site, you can order your iMac configured with the options you want. You could, for example, get the 2.8gHz model and upgrade to the Nvidia video card for an extra $150. I agree with you that the extra CPU speed of the 3.06gHz is probably not worth it. On the other hand, the extra GPU speed of the Nvidia card may help if you plan to use something like Aperture, which, I understand, is rather demanding. Best, Jacques
  4. I have an older 24" iMac that runs very well with a second 23" display at full resolution, this is no problem at all. The only thing t watch for is that the new Apple 24" LED display is NOT compatible with iMacs. Cheers, Jacques
  5. And finally some members of the group, who were in the wrong place just when my M8 was firing. And if you are tempted to tell me not to quit my day job, don't bother, I know Best, Jacques
  6. I had a great time meeting you all and walking through Chinatown with you. Thank you Maurizio for suggesting it, Kirk and William for your help with the directions, and all who showed up for making it fun. Here are a few of the pictures I made (no attempt to make photographic history). First some of the sights:
  7. I plan to be there on the 6th at 7am, at the Organic Coffee Company. Looking forward to meeting you. Jacques
  8. I am in Palo Alto and will definitely come to SF for such a meeting. Cheers, Jacques
  9. I had an older 90/f2 that, after a while, I found too big, heavy and hard to focus. I hardly ever used it, so I traded it (with a bit of cash) for a new 75 Summarit. The 75 is now one of my favorite lenses, it is perfect for portraits but also a lot of other things, and it is small, light, unobtrusive and quick to focus. I never missed the lost 1/4 of a stop, the DoF of the 75 at f2.5 is probably very close to that of the 90 at f2. Jacques
  10. Great image, Mike. There is a Norman Rockwell quality to it that works very well with the subject(s). I don't suppose you would share the PS technique you used to make the colors pop that way, but thank you for showing us what can be done. Congratulations, Jacques
  11. I would like to point out that this is not an issue specific to Leica. Every time a new camera comes out with a new raw format, the early adopters have to use the software included with the camera until Adobe, Apple, and other makers of raw converters release an update. For example, ACR 5.1, which was released Oct. 22nd, added support for a number of cameras (from Adobe site): Canon EOS 1000D (Digital Rebel XS/EOS Kiss F) Canon EOS 50D Fuji FinePix IS Pro Kodak EasyShare Kodak Z1015 IS Leaf AFi II 6 Leaf AFi II 7 Leaf Aptus II 6 Leaf Aptus II 7 Nikon D700 Nikon D90 Nikon Coolpix P6000 Olympus SP-565 UZ Pentax K2000 (K-m) Sigma DP1 Sony A900 The implication being that before Oct. 22, the raw files from these cameras were not readable in PS, LR, or ACR. There is, however, a Leica specific issue, and it is that Adobe and Apple, to name two, tend to take longer to include support for Leica cameras because of the relatively smaller market. Hope that helps, Jacques
  12. It is at Dale Photo for $165 (but as a preorder). Leica Compact Battery Charger for M8 Jacques
  13. There is a variable called "Image Unique ID" in the EXIF data, which is the number of pictures taken by the camera. It is in Hexadecimal. There are several programs that will allow you to display the EXIF data, but they do not all show this field. For example, Adobe Bridge does but Lightroom does not (on a Mac). Cheers, Jacques
  14. Received my Noctilux today - actually I could have had it yesterday if I had been home :-). I had sent the order in early April, and that's what I expected - I was hoping to have it before the holidays, but not much sooner.
