  1. So, you don't understand how exposure works, then? You want to both limit the iso AND limit the shutter speed, thus effectively FORCE the camera to underexpose when there's not enough light. Either, you will then increase the exposure in post (which adds noise) or you accept dark, underexposed images.. Increasing exposure in post will have the same effect as just letting the camera increase the iso on its own. If you don't understand that, then that's fine.
  2. Recently purchased this Q2 in fantastic condition. (2'900 EUR, if you must know) Came in original box including the Leica store tote, with warranty until end of 2024, and extended warranty to spring 2026. Currently waiting for a thumb grip that I ordered off of ebay. Using the Paracord strap from this awesome manufacturer on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1000308467/premium-paracord-braided-all-black-peak?show_sold_out_detail=1&ref=nla_listing_details (got the same one for my R7 but without the Peak Design clips) The camera unfortunately had only one battery included, and the absence of 3rd party batteries on the market has me a little worried.. I'm not gonna spend this much on an oem spare unless I absolutely have to. Anyways, the camera came with a beautiful leather half case that has no logo or brand name anywhere. Solid aluminium baseplate with precision cutouts for access to the battery and memory slots. It appears to be of very high quality genuine leather, but I couldn't figure out who made it. The bottom cover has a brass button lock, but it's also magnetic at the hinge in the middle. Has anyone seen this before?
  3. Those ONA knockoffs look amazing! I have an ONA "the Bowery" (cognac leather) and love it. But I've regretted not getting the dark brown one shortly after I got mine. Tried to sell it at half price and nobody cared, lol.. I barely use it, because the light brown leather just doesn't please me anymore.. I did find that I could darken it by applying leather wax to the surface, at least for a short while. Been contemplating trying to darken it permanentely, though, since I would then probably use it more often, too. That said, those knockoffs look just as awesome as the real deal, and they are sold at a reasonable price, too.
  4. OP concluded that the best solution will be to simply underexpose every picture, instead of letting the iso go higher?! Makes complete sense, since you then just increase exposure in post and add the same noise again. (or worse, depending on software, I suppose?!) 🫠
  5. got a Bowery and it is surprisingly spacious.. Canon 1Ds mk III with a vintage 50mm fits in there, too.. But I usually carry it with me with the Q (from now on, Q2) in there. Sometimes, I'll bring one of my film bodies along, like the R5 or R7.. But I might get brave and bring the Spotmatic or Fujica instead. In my Think Thank Retrospective 10, I have so much space, I will bring the Q as well as the R7 with summicron 50, Summicron 90, and the Elmarit 28..
  6. https://www.ebay.ch/itm/164836685888?var=464324019730 just got this one, despite the JJC costing half as much. This one here looks a little nicer, imo.
  7. In case anyone ends up here looking for this. I've got the Match Technical Leica Q thumb rest and the Fittest Leica Q thumb rest. The former costs 10 times as much as the latter, but the differences are very small. The Match Technical is made from solid brass, which is revealed over time as your thumb inevitably begins to scratch off the paint. Unfortunately, the Q is NOT. As a consequence, if there's even the slightest scratch on the camera body, you will be reminded that the thumbrest is made of higher quality metal than the camera. The Match Technical also has a rubber dampener that sits in the thumb recess of the camera body. That's a good thing, because you don't want the brass to scratch your camera body. And it also helps relieve some of the stress from the hotshoe, I'd wager. That said, the Fittest could easily be upgraded with a tiny silicone sticker to achieve the same thing. It was a lot lighter, and did NOT scratch at all. (I'm assuming it was anodised aluminium and therefore the paint holds on much better than on the painted brass) Both thumb rests used an allen key to fasten them to the hotshoe and neither obstructed access to any buttons. Both did their job exceptionally well. I honestly don't see a reason why one would spend 100 bucks on as simple an item as this that costs a couple bucks in manufacturing. (No less 200+ for the ridiculous original..)
  8. @JC331 Got both the Q and Q2 in front of me right now. Switched them on and off a dozen times and almost half the time, the Q was just as quick as the Q2. (both using freshly formatted 128GB Sandisk Extreme Pro cards and full batteries) The other times, it took the Q2 maybe 1 sec and the Q maybe 1.5 seconds.. Switching off, the Q2 basically instantly shows the logo and is silent. The Q takes a bit longer than that, about a second or 1.5. (I didn't videotape this, so take the numbers with a grain of salt.) Suffice it to say, the Q is plenty fast enough. And, @Le Chef this is not about not having a spare battery along for the ride. My Q never runs out of battery and I always have a spare with me anyways. It's an irrational fear for it running out of juice, because I'm used to my DSLRs that usually go 1'500 shots on a single charge.
  9. https://www.godox.com/product-a/Lux-Cadet.html looks like a lot of fun Considering getting one for my Fujica
  10. I just got mine in excellent condition with extended warranty until 2026 including the box, all original accessories, even the Leica store tote. for 2'900 bucks. (Switzerland) Regular warranty is until end of 2024. It was serviced in February and they replaced the leatherette. But under "work done", they wrote: "complete system overhaul".. according to their extended warranty rules, that should cover a lot. 🙃
  11. he's clearly afraid that the battery will be dead when he wants to take a picture.. I'm the same.. my power switch on the Q gets toggled at least a hundred times a day when travelling. It actually powers on very quickly normally. Fast enough to be ready before you've got your eye at the finder. If you're "hunting" for photos, then you really want it switched on at all time, though. I'll receive my Q2 in a day or two. Can compare them directly, then. But my experience with the Q was always very positive with regards to that. Write times after taking a bunch of pictures?! not so much.. The camera would often take half a minute before it actually switches off again, because it's so slow at writing to the card. The Q2 will probably be even slower considering the DNGs are twice the size.
  12. On my Q and the R5 I've got a Paracord Strap from OKLI. They are amazing quality, affordable, and look great. (I went with all black with red stitchings) https://www.etsy.com/listing/981738647/premium-paracord-braided-black-handmade?click_key=84d0e7fb50f907e5df02b6c42bffc27333458e9c%3A981738647&click_sum=f1272aa2&ref=shop_home_recs_3&sca=1&sts=1 The cord is very comfortable to wear and feels incredibly solid. I've had the regular one on my Q during my travels around the world and it never let me down. Recently got the one with the peak design clips and have used it a couple of times at events. It's great if you're using the camera with a tripod a lot, because the dangling strap can be annoying. Have yet to buy more clips so I can use that strap on other cameras too, I suppose. I also have one of the slim leather straps from Gordy's. (black with red thread) along with several wrist straps (brown leather) that I use on my Pentax SLRs. It's great with lighter film cameras but it didn't feel too comfortable over the long run. On my new R7 I've installed a Couch Guitar Strap. That's massive, but insanely comfortable.
  13. we actually did use a respirator, yes. didn't protect the eyes though... they suffered.
  14. they haven't gotten it yet. The guy from customer support told me to expect 2 grand for repairs since they'd probably have to replace the entire lens unit. I have no idea how much it would really be, but since they would send it in to Wetzlar in Germany, I'm very hesitant to give it to them for the repair. Even if they quotet me a lot less for the repairs, I would probably have to pay a lot to get it back un-repaired... Also, I wouldn't care about warranty. I honestly just want it to work again The camera seems fine.. you can go through the menu, look at pictures, etc. It's just as soon as you go into shooting mode, you get the lock-up error message tellling me that the OIS is faulty. (And I disabled the OIS already) I suspect corrosion because the rings of the strap look like they got dipped in acid (the camera never got wet, was never in the rain, etc. but the vapours probably got inside somehow..)
