I agree. the problem isn't going anywhere, and it isn't going to change (as far as the # of handguns on the street today) with more laws prohibiting sales/ownership. Something needs to be done right now that will still the flowing blood. I can't see more gun laws doing anything. I don't have a solution, but I think the U.S.'s attitude toward violence is a good place to start for long term solutions.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about the attitude toward guns and the number of guns being the main problems...but that has to be the starting point, not more and more and more gun laws. Look where they have got us. There are so many laws already in place that have not worked. And who else, besides criminals, is the problem. the laws on the books state that shooting people not in self defense, murdering, in some cases carrying a gun are all illegal. Those who do these things are criminals. The attitude toward guns and their availability are problems, but they are way more complicated and difficult to manage than dealing directly and harshly with those who break the laws. As far as all the comparing the problem in the US to other countries, I think it's a bit simplistic. Just as other countries' laws are different, their cultures are different, their histories are different, their populaces are different...The US's gun/violence problem is specific to the US. Now the world's violence problem, that's another story...

Who is advocating "unregulated" gun ownership?

I don't think anyone thinks nothing should be done. I just think it's not the right place to start. Stricter gun laws are not going to stop the blood flowing right now. Stricter gun laws may affect the future to some extent...but still remember, CRIMINALS ARE NOT FOLLOWING THE LAWS. Right now something different has to be done to deal with he problem today. I agree, there are too many guns on the street right now. I don't know the numbers, but I doubt it's a high percentage that were bought legally, following the strict gun laws. Stirct gun laws won't prevent criminals from stealing guns, smuggling guns and using guns. It may restrict their access to guns in the future, but not right now as people are dying. Read this morning's Chicago paper online. John Doe's legally purchased, strict gun law approved pistol isn't what shot that 16 year old in the stomach yesterday.

Azzo, that always sounds like a good start. Unfortunately, I don't think it is. Here in the States, in Chicago (murder capital of the country (+520 last year)) we have some of the strictest if not THE strictest gun laws in the country. More than 50 school age (6-18) kids were shot in Chicago last year. About 15 of them died. Up until last year the ability to purchase and own a hand gun in Chicago was non-existent unless you were law enforcement. My point is that there are so many guns on the street right now that more laws, more controls will do very little if anything at all. Besides, those being killed are not being killed by law abiding citizens. Criminals do not follow the gun laws. Strict gun control will only work once the number of guns in the hands of criminals decreases. Until then I think you're affecting law abiding citizens. It's a tough problem, and one that I don't think is necessarily solved by the loudest (gun control now) voice. Especially in Chicago where instead of spending money to stop murders we're building park named after the former first lady of our city ($55,000,000). Could have paid a lot of educations.

One of my favorite photos on this forum. I'm glad there's no head. Everything works. It's straightforward, no gimmicks. Well done. The tree shadow is great. Jon

The image wouldn't be as interesting without those handprints. Those are what really make it.
