  1. Star Kempf statue in Colorado Springs - Q2
  2. Diving Caddies - Cadillac Ranch west of Amarillo, Texas, USA. Q2M, 1/50, f/8, ISO 2000. A very unusual and wildly popular art of half buried Cadillacs. They welcome anyone visiting to spray art with paint on any car. It's art!
  3. DAYLIGHT DARKNESS - We experienced an Annular Eclipse last Saturday in the western states of the US. I traveled to Albuquerque to be near the center-line and to ensure I experienced the full annularity. The extra fun challenge was to use the Q2M with a Swarovski ATS-80 spotting scope to capture the eclipse. Of course there were plenty of challenges, but that's the fun to it. Q2M, Swarovski ATS-80 spotting scope, Thousand Oaks Optical solar filter, Leica Q spotting scope adapter, on tripod, 1/250, f/5.6, ISO 200, processed in LR and composited in PS. Totally FUN!! Also posted in the October Barnack challenge.

  5. Good luck with the Aspen. I despise them after planting 4 trees 20 years ago. They aggressively want to take over my entire yard. Sucker growths by the hundreds. I literally have no idea how to eliminate them beyond digging up and replacing a lot of soil.
  6. Sunspots with Q2M attached to a Swarovski ATS 80 spotting scope with a 18-stop solar filter in front of the scope. 1/1000, f/4, ISO 100, on tripod of course, 20X scope eyepiece magnification, manual focus in macro mode on the Q2 set to the far end of the focus range. I used a Leica Q spotting scope adapter which clamps around the spotting scope eyepiece and allows the Q2M lens to screw into the other side. Unfortunately the adapter is no longer available from Leica. Focusing was a real challenge between the Q2M and the spotting scope. I used the 12 sec. timer to allow the scope to settle before the exposure. Selecting PASM exposure preview was a huge help with seeing the image and pursuing a sharp focus. This is a challenging photo to take, but a fun one. I'm practicing for the annular eclipse which will track across the western part of the US on Oct. 14.
  7. Leica Q, IR Filter, On-Tripod, 1/800, f/8, ISO 800. US Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lockheed P-38 Lightning (Bronze) Fighter Aircraft statue and bench.
  8. BENCH by the US Air Force Academy Chapel. Using Infra-Red filter. 8 sec, f/8, ISO 800, on tripod.
  9. Broad-Tailed Hummingbird female taken with Q2M and red filter using a Canon macro flash MR 14-EX II. Handheld, 1/640, f/10, ISO 800, Canon macro flash set to manual mode, 1/32 power. Just having fun with the Q2M.
  10. First, I applaud your efforts to use the Q3 in unusual ways. I try to push limits myself. I may be wrong, but would the camera meter the scene and then use that for all subsequent photos? That’s why they are grossly underexposed after dark? Are you using the interval timer? Would exposure bracketing help? You might have to throw away many of the images. If as you say the shutter speed is limited to 0.6 secs, there may be no hands off and go to sleep solution. I’m suspicious that the shutter limitation is a feature decision and should you try this on an M11, it would go to a much longer shutter. Good luck. It’s an interesting use of the Q3.
  11. Use a tripod if possible and watch out for wind moving the flowers. Depth of field is a big variable in macro because its much smaller in general. Play with aperture to find what you like.
  12. I would chat with Adobe customer support. They’re usually helpful.
  13. New US Air Force Academy Visitors Center under construction in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Leica Q2 Monochrome, 1/10,000, ISO 200, f/5.2, handheld, cleaned up a little in PS. Processed mostly in LR.
