    Lightweight M10

I'd love a lightweight M10. An M10 made from some lighter material. I know magnesium is used in constriction — a metal lighter than titanium or aluminum — but it seems as if it's the brass that compounds the weight? I spent two weeks hiking with my M10 + 35mm Summilux and definitely felt it at the end of each day. I just finished an even more arduous mountain climb but brought only my Leica Q and the difference in shoulder / neck fatigue was astounding. Would love to have an M10 combo that weighed as little or less than the Q. The Q, all in is 640g. The M10 seems to be 660g body only. Probably a contentious idea (removing brass from the Ms) but … just wondering if anyone else has felt the need for such a machine?
  2. I got burned by a third party case (non-Italian) with a battery door that just wasn't well made. Felt sloppy, didn't quite fit the camera, the battery door also felt flimsy, really disappointing. Ended up buying the brown Leica half-case and have been nothing but delighted. It fits like a glove, no wiggle, beautiful leather that wears beautifully. Have been using it for a solid six months and can highly recommend it. I've found the lack of battery door to be not much of an issue (I rarely burn through more than a battery in a single session). And I appreciate the simplicity of not having the door, and keeping the baseplate on. I don't use the screen cover / flap though, and wish you could a case without the feature as there are two magnets that bulge ever so slightly on the back.
  3. Hard to recommend more highly; end of October - end of November hiking / cycling / motorcycling / trekking is just outstanding. From a boat tracing along Matsuo Basho's Oku no Hoso Michi —
  4. Aaaaaaand. Fixed. THANK YOU. I had just upgraded firmware at the start of July. I don't really keep on track of these forums / Leica news, so the idea that there might have been even newer firmware never crossed my mind. Between issues like this and the recent TL bricking kerfuffle with the Visoflex … Leica should probably thoroughly review their software shipping pipeline. I mean, it's cute, in that it makes Leica seem like a quaint bumbling little village cobbler, but seems out of character for a purveyor of precision instruments. Many thanks again.
  5. M10 just a few months old. Shutter suddenly started clipping 70% of image at 1/4000. Also looks like it's not quite getting out of the way at 1/3000, either. Is this common? Back to the factory? Samples attached.
  6. Having played with an M10 + Visoflex EVF for a couple of days ... The only thing I'm left wanting for is the EVF to be integrated into the RF system (and toggleable, of course) ala Fuji x100-style. As much as I love the Visoflex, man it certainly gums up the otherwise gorgeous lines of the machine. I find that when you can shoot at 10,000 ISO and get usable images, being able to focus in near darkness with a summilux is nearly impossible without some electronic assistance. Having that be right there, right in the eyepiece seems like a natural next step. (Plus the usual ISO boost and maybe a few more megapixels to keep the inevitable monster smartphones at bay.)
  7. It's also good to remember that another option is: sync your camera clock and smartphone clock, and run a gps tracker on your phone (I run Moves.app constantly in the background, 24hrs a day). You can then pretty easily sync up your gpx file and your photos in Lightroom. It's obviously a bit more work (and probably more accurate), but another option if you're concerned about battery drain / addons for your camera.
  8. Some shots from spending New Year's up on Koyasan in Japan. Have been using the Q for 15 months now and still love it to pieces.
