  1. Sometimes life throws you a change-up that you cant avoid taking a swing at... We recently packed up and move from our home of almost 13 years in Denver to take advantage of a new opportunity and adventure in Seattle. Havent been shooting too much with everything going on, but have a few to share from the new home and from a recent trip that we've had planned for a while. 2. been doing a bit of traveling and just havent had time to process any photos until this past weekend. Sharing a handful from recent family visits around North Carolina. All with the 50 apo and 246. M1004061 by pechelman this is an old cabin just below the childhood house i grew up in, so it has some sentimental value to me. Surprised it hasnt changed at all...i.e. surprised it's still standing! 5. my recollection is that it wont fit reversed, but i can double check for you later when I get home. unless you're using a filter on the summaron, i've never really felt a need to use the hood. The front element is pretty well tucked back into the lens.
  6. bring either just the Q or the Q and the X100F with the TCL. Really though, from the sounds of your trip, just bring the Q, a very small travel tripod (shots with your friends, astro, aurora, water), and one ND filter.
  7. Some really wonderful shots here from the past couple pages. Been shooting a bit less than normal in anticipation for a trip we depart for tomorrow. Till I return, here are a few from the past few weeks. M1003204 by pechelman M1003212 by pechelman M1003218 by pechelman M1003244 by pechelman
  8. Very well done Arto! The next turn is yours. I felt if I mentioned the bagel without the hole it would have been too much of a giveaway, though with the hints about vodka production, ancient forest, and the large animal (european bison), maybe it wouldnt have made a difference.
  9. Hi, Michael. You've picked up excellently well on the hints I've dropped. We're definitely in Poland. The photo isnt very helpful with all the other styles of architecture in here, but the main tower does have a distinctive style to this region in Poland. Though even that can be confused with some other neighboring areas of Eastern Europe. To give another hint to help things along, this city of Poland is known for many things; Vodka production, a specific type of very large animal in a nearby ancient forest, and a type of bread that is somewhat similar to a bagel. Best regards, Phil
  10. While this city was never under Habsburg rule, a portion of the country in which it resides today was formerly part of their empire.
  11. When we were there, I had the same thought about the rooflines, but not Belgium or the Netherlands either. To be honest, I would focus more on the building with the tower in question. I am uncertain about the heritage of the other buildings in the square as I believe much of this city was destroyed in WWII and later rebuilt, as with many other of the major cities in this country. Maybe another small hint, I believe this city has been under the political control of at least 3? different countries over its ~500yr history. Hopefully that helps narrow down a general region, if not, I have another less subtle hint I can provide as to the location.
  12. Scandinavia is certainly closer, still a good bit away, but now we're on the right continent.
  13. Stuart, Interesting take on the image, and I can certainly see where you're getting that, but we're on almost the other side of the world from any of those places. Best regards, Phil
  14. That's very kind of you, Wilson. After a quick look through my pictures I thought this might be a fun one. Please name the prominent building in the background behind the fountain to the left. This building has served a variety of functions over the years, so I will accept either past or present designations. If you know the town, you'll easily find the building. Best regards, Phil
  15. Michael, I meant no disrespect by referring to the German culture as being enthusiastic about Spargel, but certainly I can see that just a single monument would exemplify just a reasonable glimpse into German life during the Spring when that vegetable is in season. However, in my limited travels in Germany I find it wonderful that they really embrace and celebrate this seasonal vegetable with Spargelkarten at many restaurants. It was to this overall phenomena, in combination with the monument, in which I was really referring to as enthusiasm. I'm having a hard time thinking of any other place I've visited that devotes an entire page of menu to one seasonal ingredient like the Germans do with Spargel. I love it and am very excited for a nice Spargelsuppe and some Spargel mit Hollandaise when I return in a few weeks. Best regards, Phil And to everyone else, Arto just gave a huge hint to find this city. Good luck!
