  1. Moderator. ]Just delete my membership altogether please sir. I wouldn't be able to last long in a forum that couldn't tolerate a joke anyway.
  2. Then I sincerely apologize. I'm typically a bastion of political correctness.
  3. It's not mandated, but desirable. Rather like the boots and hat I wear on my cattle ranch and when visiting my oil wells. And most people don't carry openly. We generally conceal them under our dusters. (explanation for non Texans https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duster_(clothing) ) Except for my long gun. I keep it in a saddle holster for easy access when needed. This is my own preferred solution, although it does restrict me to the short 20 round magazine rather than my preferred 40 round version.
  4. Please report back on the results, please. The reason I ask, the issue in my own camera seems to have resolved without intervention.
  5. These people make one which might have been useful. https://www.safariland.com/our-brands/aba/
  6. Although I had a wet b & w darkroom for decades, I have never touched a B & W only camera so have nothing to offer in that regard. However, if I might be allowed a somewhat contrarian viewpoint I do have one speculation: I strongly suspect that final resolution for the issue of "I am concerned only with creating the ultimate in print quality" will always boil down to the skill level employed in post processing. This may possibly mean that whatever equipment you already have, the results might be more favorably affected by intense study/experimentation/practice than different gear. Apologies if this comes across as a stuffy or pompus reply, it was certainly not intended as such. I realize this is essentially a non answer, but as you are very clear on objectives I think it bears on the actual intent of your question. Which is of course not to say that having the best equipment might not be desirable, it's just that I think it is not the most important factor.
  7. Agreed. Actually, it think a car bra is way uglier than the scratches
  8. I recall when the Nikon D3x was introduced and they made a major advertising issue out of the sapphire screen and how it was no longer necessary to use a screen protector. As I rather liked the camera I followed the eBay ads in the later years of the camera's production and thought it was interesting how may sellers included the mention of "very minor hairline scratches" or some such in their descriptions. I can also tell you with some certainty that it's possible to scratch the sapphire crystals on Rolex watches pretty easy. Perhaps some sapphire or Gorilla Glass or something is better than others, but I remain unconvinced. I tend towards the view that if it's possible to scratch the screen I'll probably do so , therefore I use a screen protector. I am convinced that pretty much any of them will satisfy my requirements as long as they are not terribly obtrusive.
  9. Ah. I was unaware there was more than one. edit: Actually, on reflection I think I was even more confused than usual. I think I was actually recalling either Schindler owning B and H or perhaps the other way around. German company ownership is not commonly something I meditate on over a beer.
  10. Well, I was kinda close. I'm pretty sure Hoya owns Schneider. I did fine a bit of (cheap) cigar ash in my sample, however.
  11. There may be some reason for you to at least consider the previous version of this fine lens. I bought one from jdlaing and find it exactly what I needed for travel, which is my main use for the Leica. The first version of the lens allows the metal lens hood to be reversed on the lens. For my travel use this is a considerable selling point as I prefer to carry my second lens in a pocket rather than carrying a camera bag. This is not possible on the current version of the lens as the aperture lens size has been increased and the hood won't fit reversed. See photo. Regarding macro use, the first version features an adapter which allows focusing through the rangefinder. The current version requires the EVF, which I personally loath, or using LV. In either case, I find this to be an excellent choice. If you purchase an EVF, consider the Olympus branded version, which is the same thing and available used for perhaps US $100 or so. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Olympus-VF-2-/322077013923?hash=item4afd4937a3:g:PtgAAOSwYmZXElsh
  12. Must be another urban legend. I was certain it was Hoya. (seriously)
  13. In my ongoing search for the newest and greatest Magic Snake Oil, I Googled their website. It didn't have very much to say beyond the sales price of US $69. But they did offer a free 30 day trial, so I think what the hell. Downloaded the Mac version. As it is from an unknown developer the Mac wouldn't let me install it without changing my security preferences. Changed the security and opened it up. The installer was pretty crude. In addition to the stand alone program here appears to be a plugin for Photoshop CS6 perpetual and also Photoshop CC. Also Photoshop Elements and Lightroom. Instructions seem to be available in French from within the program with an additional separate sheet in German. As the plugins seemed to require some thought on my part in order to get them installed I opted for the stand alone program. Interface seems kinda clunky. When at last I was able to open an image it looks like just another collection of rather offensive and garish filters. I lost interest before I got as far as looking at anything beyond the presets.
  14. Is the white paper thing sufficient for correcting a wide range of apertures and light conditions or is it very specific ? I might like to try this.
  15. Don't have any. Will you settle for some pics of the liquor store ?
