  1. I have M9M, M-P and a bunch of other film M's, and don't think you're crazy to think of selling the M9M to focus on film only. From your post it looks like you'd be working with at least a couple of film M's to get the frameline choice. Say, an M3 and and MP/M-A. You could always buy an M9M again when your needs or tastes change. I haven't been able to shoot film because I live in a small apt in Manhattan and don't have the bathroom space to develop film anymore (I also used to bulk roll), so I'm stuck shooting digital again. Film M's are worth hanging on even unused just because they're lovely and hold their value. The same doesn't apply to digital M's. If I were back to shooting film only, say, and could commit to it for a couple years, I might sell whatever digital M's I own. If I reckoned I might come back to it within a year there's little point. The other thing is that (new sensor) M9M depreciation has probably slowed down. It's a classic. That being said it looks like you're really committed, esp with that Noritsu scanner. There's a lot to be said for focus. Film is indeed special, and doing it well may require the long term focus of not having any other choice. And perhaps you could go on to making your own prints.
  2. The yellow filter, to my eye, 'corrects' for the Monochrom's spectral sensitivity profile. Orange and red are for more specialised uses. I'd try a yellow-green filter if I had one.
  3. This is spot on. I came from a M9/MM to the M240 last year and, having never turned on AUTO-ISO, was just stumped by its behaviour when I tried, and didn't find an answer here. Its now 2019. Just to round off this discussion and put it out there for anyone else who might have had the same experience, it looks like Leica provided a solution as via a firmware update since this discussion was last active, though I don't know which one. I'm on 2.05 ( issued in 11/29/2017) and there's now a menu option as suggested by JaapV. From the ISO button, under "Auto ISO in M mode" you can choose "Previous ISO" or "Auto." Perfect.
  4. I gave the Olympus version of the EVF. I can handle the low res display. What's ridiculous is the length of the blackout after each shot take with it on. I'd only use it for landscape or macro.
  5. I just traded in my M9 for a new M-P rather than pay the premium for a new M10. Might be a bit of a wait for used M10 prices to come down. Demand remains strong and prices have actually gone up. I dont mind. I'm enjoying the M-P immensely
  6. Also sticking to the measurable ratio of number of images / price rather than my subjective sense of "bang for buck" , I find that the results for me are a 35mm Summicron IV and a 50mm f/2.5 Summarit. This is despite my also having many of the lenses others have listed as favorites. I guess it's because these two are light and small and end up going on the camera I almost never leave home without. They're great for the camera you have with you all the time. Sent from my EVA-L29 using Tapatalk
  7. Thanks for this, Rus . Despite having owned the M9 for several years I hadn't tried this technique in low light, nor had the chance to properly compare it to the M240. Always something new to learn on this forum. Sent from my EVA-L29 using Tapatalk
  8. +1. Textbook example indeed Sent from my EVA-L29 using Tapatalk
  9. I agree, but to address a point made earlier about post processing, the detail the APO 50 captures, if you're so inclined , can be post processed into the kind of surreal filthy (yet impossibly detailed and toned) dark that Jacob Aue Sobol did with that set of photos that first seduced some of us into getting the APO 50 to use with the MM1. 10. Thanks ! I had no idea this might be the reason why I've been seeing the same artefacts, if that's what they are and not just my missing focus or the lens needing alignment again . I will try this. It's another topic , but I hardly ever touch the default settings for sharpening or contrast. Sent from my EVA-L29 using Tapatalk
  11. Well it was just a medium sized bay and they could afford it! Back then PC's ruled and the mouse business was roaring Sent from my EVA-L29 using Tapatalk
  12. And the M7 and Elmarit seem weather all that snow ok! Another virtue of film is that you don't get the battery problems I did trying to use an M9 in 10 degrees F. Its puny batteries just die after a few shots at that temperature. Those using M240's may have fared better. Sent from my EVA-L29 using Tapatalk
  13. Omnivorous ...Protean. More readily "upgraded", redesigned, miniaturised, cut into hybrid forms ( one of my cameras makes calls) . Their product cycles are driven by Moore's Law. Meanwhile, as mere analog beasts and social creatures our 'cycles' for forming any sort of craft tradition and collective memory around our tools and artefacts take a little longer. I'd like to work with media that don't "revolutionise" themselves (for whose benefit? Ours or the corporates?) every five years. Whether it's for better or worse depends on what we are about. I'm an amateur. I'm just struggling to take a decent photo. No, I don't want a computational camera on an automated drone to video it in 5k glory (why settle for the single moment when you can have the entire unfolding scene ) for me. 14. And now it's the CD that's dead while vinyl lives on as a product valued for its analog properties. Digital has little use for particular physical forms. Similarly analog cameras will continue to be valued and used long after digital technology has replaced today's digital cameras with smartphones, smartwatches or whatever follows from them. The digital rangefinder and the digital SLR are, like desktop computers (as to analog typewriters) mere user interfaces, metaphors for the manipulation of their digital capabilities. The first generation mimics its analog predecessors rather literally. Subsequent ones develop other formats and interfaces and functions that eventually change the very practice. Speaking for myself, I like my digital M's because they're (imperfectly) continuous with my analog M's. In using them I am sticking with photography as a practice whose aesthetics (I typed 'canons' and my phone autocorrected to the brand name) were developed over a hundred years of film photography. I've no need for more . Sent from my EVA-L29 using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered one as backup charger, and am glad you mentioned the price, because on Amazon it's $35. I found it for $25 on eBay. Nice to see it offers the convenience of being USB powered. Sent from my EVA-L29 using Tapatalk
