    That X1!

    Hi. I recall there was also an x-e, very similar to the x-2, correct? I am the happy owner of a x1 which internal died and cannot be repair. I wish Leica would provide a better service for this kind of non mechanical nor electronic issues…
  2. I asked myself the same question last week. I decided to sell my M7 and take the M246. I dropped film because at the end, the digital picture is done by the scanning process and not completely the camera/lens. For me, 80% of my images are in bnw. I have the M9 and other little camera (wonderful Ricoh gxr) for colour shots. So I am still in the learning curve but enjoying the M246. Also when I take it I know that I will be restricted to bnw (what else) but I can count of a very good battery life and high iso performances. I read several reviews and a very good friend t9ld me also that Iso was almost as good as the M10m. The pentax was tempting but still apsc and too bulky. So yes, it is I think a valid choice. M9 m was tempting but difficult to find. The only “negative” would be its resell value in a few years as the M246 seems less popular.
  3. Not interested. Not only the fact that I never really print bugger than a3 it sounds more marketing. Is Leica trying to compete with Sony? Moreover I know a bunch of guys here enjoying old design lenses. How will it perform with such a demanding sensor? i keep my M9 which is more than enough actually...
  4. Hi, So here are my votes: N° 3 => 3 points N° 9 => 2 points N° 6 => 1 points But congrats to all for the pictures 🙂
  5. Hi, A very nice collection of pictures. Even If I was there, at least I was able to share some spanish moments with you. Good work Here are the pictures I liked the most: 1st Pict 9 Mummy I have to hide 2nd: Pict 20 We forgot the coffin 3rd Pict 19 Too fast for a Summicron Hoping to see you next year. Cheers D
  6. For me: Ricoh GR iii for digital and Minolta X700 with 50mm 1.7 for film...
  7. Hi, Interesting to see discussion about film cameras... For me they are just light boxes with more or less help, not the same as digital. For me the most important is its "sensor" (well the film then 🙂 ) the lens, and the process after the picture has been taken... Dev, scan, print or not, etc... So film only, why not if it corresponds to what you expect from photography. It is just a media among others, very tempting of course for its organic feel... Just my 2 cents...
  8. indeed push comes from the film era when exposing g a film with a higher sensitivity than the box one i.e. portra 400 exposed as 800 iso. This was useful when lenses were not very fast. In digital world you will translate with increasing the iso value then it means the electric signal on the sensor which create more noise.. And this is one of the Achilles heel from the M9
  9. Hi, As it has been said for decades, invest on Lenses (of course Leica 🙂 ), not on cameras... M9 is still very good after 7 years!! Just my opinion. D
  10. Hi, Funny to continue this threat on M9, almost 5 years after its last message... I was chatting with a very good friend who sent back his 3rd M10 for repair... Yes, an exception some will tell me but I found it just unacceptable for such a camera... Now, he is using still his M9... So I asked myself about the M9 Longevity... And I found this article... Of course the electronic is outdated after 10 years, and above ISO 1200 the M9 files are terrible... But I have this in mind that if we love a brand that maintains a more than 50 years old framing technique, well an "old" camera will still have a place in this world... If we praise so much the "film" look, film packs in the digital editors, why not having the best of both worlds? Film and Digital... So "longue vie au M9"... Just hoping Leica will celebrate ... Join me to revive this thread and maybe see you in Wetzlar for a happy anniversary on 09/09/2019... Cheers!

  13. Hi. I put the date in my agenda. I will try to join you. Please add my name to the list. See you there soon. Cheers David
  14. Funny I did not see planes in the sky... BTW, your sensor is dirty John... 🙂 Yes, Lyon was a very great challenge. Hoping the picts will be as good as the time spent there with you folks...
  15. Humm... I am very pleased whether film can be used at professional level nowadays... But for me the question would be more which film... instead of the camera model. The latter stays a lightbox... with the same "sensor"
