  1. Serviced 3 years ago the lens has performed really well until just recently when the patch is out horizontally by a good margin. The M3 patch is always spot on with all my other lenses. It could be a knock but everything looks fine outwardly. I know these setups can be beyond the amateur so I'm not contemplating any tool work from me. I'm asking if anybody might have an idea as to the cause. Cheers.
  2. No but Leica curtains are specific items and that is what I am referring to...
  3. Can anyone shed light on whether Leica is/has restricted the availability of spare parts to repairers outside their official repairers in Australia? Several weeks ago my M3 suffered a detached shutter curtain and I contacted several repairers worldwide and all informed me that they could do the work so obviously they had access to the correct parts. On contacting a well renowned repairer here in Oz he informed me that some time ago he attempted to seek some parts for a job and was told by Leica Australia that the policy now was no internal parts were being supplied. I contacted the Leica repairers (Camera Clinic, Melbourne) and they said they also could not come by the part, and furthermore, Leica Germany was no longer repairing film bodies. Finally I emailed Leica Australia and within several days they replied that the part was available, gave me the cost (very reasonable) and said it would be approx. 4 weeks for delivery?! I am now awaiting the parts to arrive but it bothers me that there seems to be either some accidental or intentional misinformation being put out to the detriment of owners and users like myself. Thank you for any information you may have on this matter.
  4. Cheers all, yes UliWer the beads of light are quite pronounced hexagonal in the comparison, thank you.
  5. Hi, I'm looking at getting a Summitar and was wondering whether anybody can shed light on the two variants, namely the round aperture bladed version approx. pre 1950 and the later type with the hexagonal arranged aperture. Generally the latter version seems to be a little less expensive and less sought after if my observations are correct. Both lenses opened at f2 there is clearly no difference in aperture shape but any smaller setting then does the hexagonal opening perhaps provide a little less appealing bokah for instance? Or perhaps there may be other discernible differences? Thanks in advance.
  6. Not sure how to post larger image - when I put this post up the image looked like a thumbnail which I thought would enlarge when someone clicked on it. I'm a bit of a novice at posting.

  9. Mine is a 1950, no.784 xxx with ten blades. Lovely lens.
  10. Leica 111 + Industar 22 Tmax 400
  11. Hi, Can someone confirm for me if the lens groups are the same, and therefore, interchangeable between the old black 1930's Elmar 90 f4 and the newer 1950's LTM version? I'm referring to the common 4 lenses in three group type and not the rarer 3 lens variant. I have a later silver 90 that has a badly damaged rear group and I have the chance to buy an old black unit with a badly scratched front element and I'm hoping a possible marriage will be a success. From what I have read it seems that these lenses remained unchanged throughout their history.
  12. I received my 1957 J-8 lens today and immediately went to mount it on my Leica 111. The lens initially begins to screw on quite easily and then the turns become progressively stiffer until it becomes impossible to complete mounting the lens with about a half turn remaining. I have Industar 22 and 61d plus a J-12 that have no problems in this regard. My internet research so far suggests that I may need to find someone to machine an 'undercut' or 'releif thread', if possible, to allow the lens to seat properly? I have a Zorki 4 and not surprisingly the J-8 mounts beautifully onto this body no problem. Can anyone help with a possible solution? My thanks in advance.
  13. Many thanks Luigi, yes it can be an enlightning retail experience to deal with FSU sellers and one cannot ask too many questions I have found. I will be avoiding the 'new' version in favour of a 50's model and risk around AUS$60 delivered.
  14. G'day, I'm thinking of buying a 1950's Jupiter 8 lens to mount on my screwmount 111. Up to 1960, I think, this lens came with a focus tab. My question is this- can anyone advise whether the tab will clear the slow speed dial when the lens is screwed on? I have had an Industar-22 lens that just scrapped past the dial when mounting. Any general observations about this lens are welcome as well. Many thanks.
