  1. Is there a way to understand if a Leica S Lens had the new AF engine already based on the production date? Eg I am envisioning to acquire a Summarit S 70CS from 2014 that did not have any AF changed, but it works it seems. But I was wondering whether there was a moment, after the AF problem became known, after which all S lenses had the new AF engine built in already when they were produced by Leica?
  2. Hi All I will happily receive next week a newly acquired S006 with new sensor. I wanted to also buy a proper CF card and wanted to make sure it is the right / compatible one: I understand from other threads in this forum that the 32GB is the good upper limit which may avoid any delays when starting, although some have managed with 64GB. Regarding the write speed of the cards I see that there are 120MB/s (e.g Sandisk Extreme 32GB UDMA 7 "golden") even 160MB/s (SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB UDMA 7 "black") but also older, slower, 90MB/s cards. Are there any compatibility issues with the faster speed including 160 MB/s? Since we are at this point, same question fot the SDHC Cards regarding speed (according to specs max size 32GB SDHC, but what about the write speed?) Thanks in advance! Cris
  3. Thank you all for the Info. @traveler11 and @Pieter12 to avoid any compatibility issues as vendors seem to add / remove feature continuously (eg recently FireWire support), could you please share what Operating System and Laptop Model (for Apple eg. the model / production year) are you using? This would be very useful and much appreciated.
  4. @fotomas Thank you Fotomas, since there may be some software compatibility issues, could you please also share what Operating System, what laptop model, and what Leica Image Shuttle version you are using? This would be super useful, thank you in advance.
  5. Hi everyone What are some possibilities of connecting the Leica M9 directly to a computer for a "tethering-like" experience? Leica Image Shuttle 3.8 does not seem to recognize it. Lightroom neither. I have an old Mac OS X 10.13.6 and I can still use the old Apple Aperture App, which recognizes the Leica M9 and it can read images as they are shot (quite slowly, but it works, however one cannot apply the same settings to photos such as when using Capture One or Lightroom). Thanks for your experience on how to do this (and for not arguing on why I would want to do this ) Cristian
  6. My M9 had no corrosion attested by regular checks by Leica for around 10 years, thinking this will last forever. However, and unfortunately, corrosion appeared just after Leica has stopped replacing the Leica M9 sensors. So corrosion will appear. Do not buy unless you have a certification by Leica that the sensor has been exchanged.
  7. Dear All I am considering acquiring one of the S cameras from the first generation S2 or S(006) or S-E(006). What are possibilities to shoot tethered with the camera in 2024? I use Mac OS X, with different versions (the oldest being 10.13.6 High Sierra - in case an older version be needed, and I could still use Lightroom 6 last licensed version before the cloud version). Grateful for your experience - open to creative solutions (e.g. "Hot Folder", etc.). (I know that there was a break in continuity in compatibility quite some years ago with Mac OS X, and I know that only the Leica S (007) or S3 are listed on Lightroom's tethering camera compatibility list, but I am sure there are some good ideas still) LG, Cristian
  8. Dear All I am considering acquiring an S2 or S(006) for professional studio / fashion / portrait work for static or some slowly moving subjects. I am aware of the slower working speed, but I love the special S CCD look (thank you for not recommending getting other camera brands :)) I am interested in knowing whether the change in 1) focusing speed and 2) focusing accuracy between the two camera models is really so significant. I would appreciate to hear your experience. Kind regards, Cristian
  9. I have of course the multifunctional handgrip. I have noticed meanwhile that there is an issue with the base plate of the M240 - the connector to the multifunctional grip has disconnected in some way - not sure though if it is worth the Leica service just for this issue. Not even sure that the M240 (even if the connect works) can be connected or ideally tethered (which was my final goal) to a recent Macbook Pro and Lightroom.
  10. Dear All I have purchased 2nd hand for some time a multi-functional handgrip for my Leica M-4 (240) which I have been using just as a handgrip. Just recently I have noticed that its actual "multi-functionality", which I would need now, does not actual work : 1) connecting the camera with a USB cable to my laptop for viewing the pictures 2) triggering my flash with the SCA connector which I also have. Question: do I need to turn on the grip in some way? does the camera detect the grip, and if yes, what should change in camera's display? can it be a camera issue or a grip issue? I have not tested the GPS functionality which I do not need, but how would you see that it is actually working, if at all? Thank you for sharing any experience, Cristian
  12. Dear All, I have recently noticed that the glass covering the lens coding detector of my Leica M-P (240) is broken - the lens coding sensor works however well. I had bought the camera from the first owner some time ago but had not noticed this detail. Leica has sent a cost suggestion of about 900 EUR + VAT for the repair in Wetzlar (including cleaning, adjustment etc.); the replacement pieces (e.g. the bayonet) cost just around EUR 150 + VAT. Just wondering, for a person who is relatively ok at repairing fine devices, is this something which can be performed at home with the right replacement pieces? Has anybody on the Forum attempted this? Despite the technical replacement itself, what are other risks e.g. optical misalignment, for which a professional Leica repair would anyway be recommended? My first goal with this repair is to avoid the camera not being waterproof (at the level where the M can be waterproof), and, secondly, I intend to purchase a Leica M11 while selling this camera in a proper state for the next owner, by investing a fair but not an exaggerated price to repair it. Thanks in advance for any ideas and experience, Cris
  13. Dear All, do you consider the M11 a similar color experience as the M10-R? As a fan of the M9 colors, I am fascinated by the M10-R colors and natural feel including at higher ISO, based on the Leica Forum thread. Some users have even compared the M10-R colors with slide which is great. I am not as much in awe with the Leica M11 colors though I appreciate its higher ISO capabilities. I use an M-P (Type 240) and I am considering upgrading to M10-R since I do not 100% the M240 colors, I am limited by the ISO as I also shoot at dark including street and I would like a clean ISO 6400. I also intend to use more the Leica M professionally for documentary / reportage photography.
  14. Great topic - would love to see your essay. I wish this can create awareness and opportunities for the people on this estate.
  15. Hi Marac - great news! Would you know what type of glass and thickness was used for the repair? Re: dead pixels: I had 1-2 dead pixels with my M9 camera without having any repair on it (even before corrosion appeared) - I think it is a normal phenomenon, I would not link it to the repair. And if the dead pixels create a vertical line on pictures, Leica service can ‘remap’ the pixels. This is a sensor issue which remains a part supplied by Leica so I would expect this service to be offered. Kind regards, Cristian
