  1. I find the SL prime lens AF surprisingly loud, disappointingly so. I am not sure if it needs to be like that for technical reasons. Interestingly, some make a more squeaky noice than others, especially when focus hunting in not well lit scenes like a concert. Of my 3 primes (35, 50, 90), I needed to return my 50 for an exchange because of it. When I bought my 90, being sensitized to the issue, I checked 4 copies and picked the most silent one. They probably all meet Leica QC and specifications, but within those there seems to be a range. The Leica zooms are much more quit, so it is possible to produce AF-quiet lenses.
  2. It would be nice to see another implementation of the "D" in a future M. I am happy with my M10-D, what I would like to have is: - best available low-light sensor with whatever megapixel (i.e. 24 is fine, but I also take 50 or something in between, I just don't need to toggle between different resolutions like the M11 offers); I would also happily pay for an upgrade to the SL2-S sensor for my existing M10-D if that was available. - better battery performance (either through a different type or better performance of electronics), and yes, having access to it without removing the baseplate through a separate door would be useful - better wireless connectivity to set key parameters, incl bluetooth - native full support for the Visoflex 2 (very useful for low-light focusing), I would also take an Mfuture-D with a built-in EVF instead of the rangefinder - and definitely keep the rewind thumbrest, I think one is allowed at least one luxury feature on an M
  3. I started with the 50 SL Cron and added the 35 SL a couple of years later. Really depends on what you primarily shoot. The 35 is great for street but for portraits, or a main subject in street I prefer a 50 or longer, regardless if you can take a few steps forward with a 35 or not, it just looks different. I will add an SL 90 at some point. The 35 75 combo seems sensible as an alternative, but the 75 is a bit too short for my use case. These are all amazing lenses. - I hardly use M lenses on the SL, but a few Rs.
  4. Does anyone know if Lightroom supports Live View or Live Preview when tethering an SL2? It does not work for me (capturing photos works fine). Would be nice to be able to focus in Lightroom view (I am digitizing film with a manual R macro lens). Maybe I do not know the right settings. Thx
  5. Well, I wrote: compromise. - The RF window needs to be covered with something (ideally useful and not ugly) or else they need to make a new top-plate which I suspect is costly to develop. It would be "revolutionary" to have a built-in LED flash in an M (like the one in your smartphone if you have one). Of course one does not have to use it. I suspect these things are very cheap, they don't replace a true flash but might provide opportunities every now and then for some fun close-up flash portraits etc. These small LEDs allow for many design options (that is why car makers love them) and maybe they could come up with a very inconspicuous solution. An M-EVF with or without flash will never appeal to a RF purist. Nobody who proposes an M-EVF suggests they should stop developing traditional RF models (film or digital), at least I did not read that. Leica will not go bankrupt if they try an M-EVF in the market in a small run and it fails. But maybe it creates some significant business for them as a surprise. It might be even cheaper to manufacture compared to the mechanical RF if they do it at scale.
  6. I mean seriously, take out the mechanical rangefinder, put in the Visoflex 2 organs and cover up the front rangefinder window with an LED flash patch. As a compromise to the purists, leave out the rear screen (I love my M10-D) and make it more profitable this way, perhaps even as an à la carte solution.
  7. I suspect that interest, demand or desire for an EVF-M is rather underestimated because of current demographic enrichment of M purists. Leica can probably make one quite easily. Put it out on kickstarter and hit the production button once it hits the break even number (1000 pieces?), then we will see. Take my preorder.
  8. They do, after the fact, in the problem section, but not about the risk in general when talking about the electronic shutter. They do not talk about the limitations of the electronic shutter in the section where they introduce it, that would be a proper place to warn. Should they feel a need to do so? I do not know, some people here seem to think such knowledge can be assumed, others would probably appreciate to be sensitized. - However, what I meant initially was a software implementation to warn in the camera body about flickering light on location based on an actual read, like some other camera manufacturers seem to be able to do (Sony was mentioned). For a camera which automates so many things, I would personally not mind if they made it easier for me to avoid it.
  9. Nice setup. - I ran my slides through a Nikon Coolscan 5000 before (still have to sell it), just want to see if for select "good ones" perhaps there is a benefit with this method. I did try negatives and find it difficult too.
  10. I want to copy slides and I was trying to use the combination but the extender does not fit over the ROM contact (the Apo Extender 2x does fit and is a workaround but the aperture prolongation makes for longer exposure). Does anyone know of a simple extender which does the same, but allows me to use it on a ROM-modified lens? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  11. Just wanted to say "thank you" to the constructive input in this thread, learned a lot.
  12. it is interesting that at another venue I had zero issues with the same settings
  13. thanks for this, happy to read that Sony does have a function to warn about flicker, so Leica might be able to do the same, if they wanted
