  1. I and my wife both own Vario X's as well as the X1 and X-E (along with the M8, M240 and the Monochrom). For our type of photography, travel, we find the Vario X offers more flexibility than the X2/X-E. We use an adapter ring that enables us to use a set of 49mm close-up lens quite effectively. We have gone on several trips where I have confined myself to the X1 and the X-E and obviously found the Vario X to offer more possibilities. We have never had an issue with the video capability being inadvertently turned on, and find the video capability nice to have. I have the Olympus EVF as well as the Leica version of it. I have used the Olympus on the Vario X without problems.
  2. My wife and I have been doing something similar. With our Vario X, X1 and X2 cameras we have used Close-up lenses #1, 2, and 3 separately and in combination. I have a Kiwi tube adapter with a 49mm filter size that I use on the X1 and X2 cameras. It is merely a matter or screwing in the lens and looking at the result on the screen or, in the case of the X2 in the EVF. Using a 43mm-49mm step up ring we use the same close-up lenses on the Vario. This arrangement is a normal part of our travel camera kit.

    Clamour for an X3

My wife and I have used the X1, X-E, and the Vario X for many years. If an X3 was issued we would be the first in line to buy it. We had been M3 and M6 users. The style and handling is very, very much like that of the M Series. Here's hoping a business case can be made for an X3
  4. A Vario X would suit your needs; I and my wife both have one and use them on our travels.Recommend getting the EVF. As it is discontinued you may very well find a used one at a good price.
  5. Here is my submission, taken with a Vario X
