  1. My former summicron 50mm had 52 pencilled inside. I assume that was for the helix munt to be correspondingly matched. p.
  2. The advantage of the Visoflex is that both the prisma and the chimney ocular gives a very clear and easily focussed image (-not like the ease of the amplified and enlarged electronic views one may get, but still adequate in normal light). the other day I had to digitize a slide while my usual Olympus bellow plus apo-ronar was away, so I mounted the (black) elmar on a novoflex outfit and succeeded. p
  3. German is not my first language, so I defer to anyone who reads the original text and interprets it in a diffferent manner. As to refocussing after having to move the lenshead in order to reach the filter drawer, and having tp to focus with or without the filter that is rather obvious and should not need a separate sentence. p.
  4. . Anleitung für televiit (XII/69/DX/L ), (letzte satz nach der beschreibung von filter ein- und ausnahme) pagina 9 lautet: "Das Fokussieren muss dann immer mit eingestzem Fiter erfolgen". Mein computer hat kein doppel-s, so es is nicht bokstavrecht geschrieben English: This certainly means that the filter does move the point of best focus . The text could be interpreted in two ways: either; 1: if one has already focussed without filter and then put it in , one must refocus, or most reasonably, 2: that one should always keep the filter in. The latter interpretation becomes more likely when one reads the entire paragraph which advices moving the tubus to clear the filter mechanism before mounting the filter, hence interpretation number one is unlikely. p.
  5. USD300 seems quite substantial as well, and as long as the device works and the glass is free of cleaning marks it will fulfilm the purpose of taking pictures. Sudden collapse and cold-welding of dried out aluminiium helixes is reputed to be reserved for Contarex optics. Not reported for Leitz. p
  6. Hr. Bredesen, I find my apotelyt 180 entirely reliable (and pleasurably compact -compared with my monstrous APO-Angeneux) and suggest that you do not bother with having it serviced as long as the mechanics remain functional. Otherwise the leitz or paepke repair charge + VAT will easily exceed any loss when selling a fully functional but only aesthetically hadicapped lens. p.
  7. The leitz reflexes are big and heavy, but a more important factor fi you wish to save money on lenses is that the distance between lens mount and film is longer than most competitors,so byuing less exxpensive optics than the R-ones cannot be done. However, the unloved Minolta zooms made for the R do work while not costing as much as the real thing. The R8 is not as old as the 6 and presumably has more life left in its mechanics. The electronics have the same potential problems as others of its kind but the viewfinder is bright. And since if it breaks repair is impossible, hence it is inexpensive, possibly also with a lens on it. p.
  8. Zeiss produced apochomats for microscopes for more than a 100years ago, the new glass frrom Schott and good calculations made it possible. p.
  9. I missed the Geographical info Systems bit and entirely agree that the Leitz measuring device successor is absolutely worthy of carrying the name- It was the ladies-handbag-and fashiion-victim-show-off-period with yellow versions etc. that put me off when Leitz stopped servicing its old products like they used to do in the Hauser torwerk. p.
  10. putting a red dot on washing up liquid or on toilet paper may increase sales to teh less well informed, but does not correspond to the reasons that Leitz became world leading: mechanical and optical excellence, longevity and reliability of products: hence relabelling is a pernicious practice. p.
  11. sir, on page 523 of the massive book on leica by Erwin Putz you will find a description of this lens. He obviously dislikes fisheye distortion. p.
  12. I found the threadmount of the IIIg limiting while hankering for M.mount glass and the slimmer Visoflex. The M3 and the CL fit nicely in my anorak ,but the LTM collapsible summicron was easier to store than the more recent one but some of the point of a small and lightweight camera was missed by also carrying extra lenses. And the Rsystem tempted , so I gave up on portability and compactness while remaining a perfectionist regarding resolution and contrast. With the arrival of usable digital devices and demise of good diapositive film I succumbed to the temptation of using my M and R optics via adapters on mirroless high MP bodies., However, until recently Leitz still made compact equipment, so I occasionally stick an X-2 in a pocket. Even if it has peculiarities and major shortcomings as a camera it can function as a "notebook". So my conclusion is: look carefully at your real needs. p.
  13. Accoring to the catalogue published by Leitz at the time the colorplans should fit directly without any form of adapter. Whether you would prefer the more expensive variety depends on your tastes and the quality of your slides. A superior projection lens is wasted on material with low resolution and contrast. Also, the screen quality and the room darkness matters. Do try to borrow a lens and see how it works. p.
  14. verzeihen sie das ich Enlisch antworte: The 100mm apo-elmarit is particularly finicky in its back focus demands. It s design is calculated to correct for different "conjugates" when focussed, so any deviation from exact distance will upset its intended performance. Hence the mount must be chosen and fitted with the utmost precision. p
  15. sir, Even though this may be post festum info, ity might be useful for others. The 2000series was far more sturdily built than the later 300&600 ones from the Zett projector factory that Leitz bought from Zeissa although they were also quite good. And the colorplan optics, especially the revised "supercolorplan P2"version is very good-, certainly much better than the one in your picture above. The zooms were intended for cases where the projector had different screen distances, but if you can plan on where to place the projector and the screen, a fixed focus lens is preferrable. make sure it is the right diameter, not the later for PR reasons called "pro" built for the Kodak slide tray system sold in the US. The 2ooo series had a very short dark-interval and some come with a thyristor that could vary the light flux. later versions also had aspheric condenser systems that guaranteed an even light distribution (except that the earlier ones did not have any visible problems with uneven light) Do test that everything works, lubricants can get sticky and fan belt rubber loosen if the device has been stored in the wrong way. The 600 I once had before I gave it away in favour of a 2002 had an easily operated trick for changing lamps but the Leitz LKM slide tray had a tendency to get stuck which the ordinary tray never did-. in conclusion, keep the 300 , get a scp on the scondhand market and enjoy projection sharper amd more colour true than any digital projector can provide. p.
