  1. Hi there I've just been advised by Mike Stokes who used to manage the "Ace Cameras Yate Branch" that the mystery item is something called a DuBois Needle Pulling Machine which was manufactured by Leitz in the 1930's until the 1950s. and was used to make glass micropipette tools.
  2. Hi there A friend of mine posted this image asking if anyone recognised it. I haven't got a clue what it is but I'm sure someone on the forum will?? Best wishes Mike
  3. Currently I use a Nikon D800 which I use in the main. As far as my Leica equipment goes I have an M6, IIIg and a IIIc
  4. Looking forward to seeing and using the new 'Leica Forum' I hope all goes well with the move Best wishes Mike Bidwell
  5. Very nicely put Andy, it says it all Best wishes Mike B
  6. I'm finding this thread quite interesting insofar as the question of the material being zinc on an M6 top plate. Back in the dark ages (early 60's) the company I worked for had many thousands of components manufactured as ZBD (Zinc Based Die Castings or as we commonly called it 'Monkey Metal.) and the standard anti corrosion treatment was Cadmium Plate and Passivate, the only problem we used to get was what was termed as 'White Rust' which used to appear on the surface of the casting I'm surprised that anyone would want to engrave a top plate after its been plated ? But that's just my thoughts
  7. Ive got a Leica M6 and I reckon I must be the odd one out HaHa :D However for the small amount of times I use a light meter, I've still got my Weston Master with its Invercone. I did toy with the idea of getting a new meter a few years ago but thought it better to put the cash towards something which I really needed. The only thing I have had done was I had the IV serviced about three years ago. Best wishes Mike
  8. three nice images of our city, see we've even got our own Ballamory.
  9. Corey, you must think yourself very lucky to have a future mother-in-law like that. These are great images and I have to agree with MadNbad keep your money in your pocket just use the camera. Welcome to the forum and lets hope all goes well for your wedding. Best wishes Mike B:)
  10. Hey what a great image and even better having such a photogenic mum. Well done Best wishes Mike
  11. That's a great blog Simon, your images are superb and I have to admit whilst I was at the earlier part of the meet I missed out on the walkabout. In fact it makes me quite envious that I wasn't able to come along because I'm seeing images of places in Bath that Ive never been to before. Best wishes Mike
  12. What a beautiful image Dan, really pleased that you had at least reasonable weather for your visit. Best wishes Mike Bidwell
  13. Just like to say it was great attending todays "Leica Meet" so ably organised by Gibbo yet again and so nice it was held in Bath. From my part it was good to renew old acquaintance's and meeting new ones. I'm sorry I didn't stay the course but another engagement had cropped up which meant I spent several hours visiting the Sainsbury's major South West distribution centre at Emerson's Green with my son and grandchildren. What an eye opener that was, a shame though I didn't take my camera. Watching a Reach Truck Driver lifting a pallet load of beer weighing 800+ Kgs up about 35 was quite scary and would have made an interesting image. Well I you all have safe journeys home. Best wishes Mike Bidwell
  14. That's one of the joys of free Bus travel !!!! Gotta keep using it cos I'm sure someone will try to take it away :-(( Best wishes Mike :D
