Thank you John. It is a monochrome conversion from colour JPEG using desaturation and channels method. I usually just try looking at greyscale first, just to get some idea of how the image would look in monochrome. Sometimes (but rarely I have to say) the image looks good enough using just greyscale. Thanks for the advice Gareth & Firoze

 

My first attempt at attaching a slightly larger file was rejected as being too large. I suspect that by reducing the already reduced image has over compressed the file. I have to admit that I don't get much practice in reducing image files......I am usually concerned in getting them up to a print size of 20" x16"! Incidentally this image was originally printed at 16"x12".
