M8 & 35mm Summarit

Visited a friend last Friday who has a cabinet making business downtown Johannesburg, I met Joseph and wanted to take his picture. He's never had his picture taken before, it took me about 10 minutes to convince him to relax and get on with his work. When I showed him the image on the camera screen he was incredulous. I've made and framed a print for him.

There a re a number of characters working for my friend, I took a couple more pics of these guys and will post these over the next few days.

Thanks for viewing.

Alostair- thank you for your comments, much appreciated.

Mike this is a fine portrait of this man. Hope you don't mind, but here's how I see him.

Ben- Thank you. In this post I was trying to illustrate the man and his work.

Funnily enough though the picture I've printed & framed for him is almost identical to your crop. Great minds think alike! Thanks for the feedback and effort you went to, really appreciated.

Regards

Mike this is a super photo why, the subject is a humble man with a trade in his hand, I think that you have done a great job by giving a certain texture to this photo, which speaks for it self!

I also like Bens version

Mike -

Delightful in every way. We too have had the wondrful experience of showing people (and giving copies to them) of the first photo of themselves they'd ever seen. You can read about one such individual - a 100-year-old basket weaver in Laos, in Barbara's trip notes from Laos.

IMHO, all I would crop is a tiny bit from the left (the less we see of the cropped wrist the better) and a tiny bit from right to compensate.

MIKE,

It is an excellent moment captured.

Ivan- Thank you! The cropped left wrist did bug me as well. I'll blame the framing lines on the M8 :D

David, Stuart, Martin, Virgil & LLT- Thank you for taking the time to comment and for your comments, as always.

this man, who does not belong to the very privileged

people of this world, exudes something positive.

At times, in which very rich, privileged people have stolen

billions of dollars from others and run the world economy

into a deep crisis, while still collecting bonus payments...

An excellent shot, I prefer the original one...

Lothar- Thank you! I echo your sentiments, it's what I love about some of the people I have been photographing recently. Their simplicity, almost timeless innocence, in the midst of this crazy, mad, greedy, frenzied world we've created. Theirs is a very simple life, yet dignified and in many cases these people live from day to day and yet are still appreciative of what little they have.
