Advertisement Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Hi mhanke, Take a look here Proud to start the architecture forum (mhanke). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
abrewer Posted June 19, 2006 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2006 Ahhh, a superb beginning Marcus. Your city has such wonderful, masterfullly-crafted buildings to photograph--they are like individual works of art in and of themselves. You are indeed a lucky man! Thanks for sharing these terrific photographs with all of us here. Allan
mhanke Posted June 20, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted June 20, 2006 Thanks for your kind comment, Allan! However, Dresden is not my home town. I live in Salzburg, which, though, has in common with Dresden its baroque architecture and history as residence city. Luckily, Salzburg escaped the Second World War with relatively minor damage, while Dresden was completely destroyed. So all the buildings you see in my post had to be rebuilt after WW II, with the wonderful "Frauenkirche" (pic # 3) having reopened only this year. abrewer Posted June 20, 2006 Share #4 Posted June 20, 2006 Thank you Marcus for correcting me. My knowledge of Dresden is limited, unfortunately. What a wonderful tribute to the rebuilders that they completely convinced me of the authenticity of the construction!!! Allan

elansprint72 Posted June 25, 2006 Share #6 Posted June 25, 2006 Marcus, An extaordinarily good set; I find it remakable that we can still construct such beautiful buildings in modern times, yet seldom chose to do so. Look forward to seeing more images like #1, which is very clever. Cheers, Pete.
ed_oneal Posted June 26, 2006 Share #7 Posted June 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) These fabulous pictures remind me how much I need to return to Dresden. We didn't spend enough time there and the Frauen Kirche was not yet finished. Maybe next year.
