dennersten Posted October 4, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys. I wan't to ask you what is your favorite classic lens. Let say pre 1975? I have all the latest modern ASPH stuff and a few classic lenses which collects to must dust in the cupboard. I really want to get into shooting with them a lot more. I really love the oldfashioned style i get once in a while. But it's not easy to predict the result, so i guess it's a lot of training. I have these classic lenses: Summicron 50/2 Often cool results, one of my all time favourites were taken with that one: Selma Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8 We are not friends only 2 nice shoots Bathingplace at Västra Hamnen, Summer 2003 and i kind of like this one: Just after sunset to prone to flare. Elmar 50/3.5 Have just shot one roll with it. Seems to be great. Leica 1 Summarit 50/?? Never tried it actually. Elmarit 50/2.8 oldstyle Sold, i thought it was to boring result. Maybe i did'nt give it enough chanse? So please direct me. What is your favorite lens? Should i pick up some more? heard about 35 Summicron? Which of my lenses would you advice me to bring along in the future and save from the dust?

echorec Posted October 4, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 4, 2008 Hej Håkan, I have most of the oldies and I would recommend the Summar. If you find an example without fungus and cleaning marks it will give you lovely results. Fantastic colours, sharp enough and a great vintage vibe.
echorec Posted October 4, 2008 Share #6 Posted October 4, 2008 ..and for 35mm, i recommend the three first versions of the Summicron. Version 1 (8 element) is very popular (=expensive) but 2 & 3 are really lovely too with a much lower price. Version 4 ("bokeh king") is nice too but lacks the vibe of the earlier ones. Leitzmac Posted October 5, 2008 Share #13 Posted October 5, 2008 I had been looking for a slightly longer lens for portrait and was recently given a 1959 Summicron (I, ELC version - f16 min. aperture) 90. Anyone have experience with this lens that they can draw from - any idiosyncrasies? How is it close up? I was at some point going to buy a pre-ASPH Summicron 90, but the 1959 is a lovely present and I have a feeling could be quite a flattering portrait lens. Thanks in advance for any info. P.S. Know the Summicron (IV) 35 is '80 onwards, but the feeling wide open is wonderful and is probably my favourite lens.

dennersten Posted October 21, 2008 Author Share #17 Posted October 21, 2008 Thanks everybody!! Sorry for a late reply. I really had the week from hell. You have really inspired me all! luigi bertolotti Posted October 21, 2008 Share #18 Posted October 21, 2008 Let's say that ALL classics have some reason to be appreciated, at least for the fact that many of them are terribly NICE (I think of my beloved Super Angulon 21 f4... )... if I have to choose one that I specifically like for intrinsic quality as user lens... well, my Summarit 50 1,5 is my preferred when I want to have a superluminous to use wide open.
Ted99 Posted October 21, 2008 Share #19 Posted October 21, 2008 In my case maybe it´s Elmar 135 mm (180) from 1965 43 years old, great pictures. Almost every picture exept the 6 last ones is from Elmar 135 Ernhill.com But Summicron 35 mm (47) 4 preasp is also great the last 4 pictures from this lens. The first 15 is from Summicron 50 mm (70). http://www.falkenbergskonsertforening.se/Bildgalleri/081018%20Duo%20Friberg/index.htm
