Noctilux F1 or Summilux 50mm Black Chrome?

Hello,

Any suggestion on which one 'should' retain value better in the long run?

The Noctilux F1 is the built-in hood version while the 50mm Summilux is the black chrome limited run ASPH version.

Thanks!

Be aware the black chrome lens cannot use filters when the lens hood is attached.

A convoluted method of screwing the filter on after the hood is already in place is documented.

This fact makes the black chrome lens less desirable IMO, YMMV.

In answer to your "retain" value question rather than "appreciate in value" is more a guess on my part,

A well bought (3k-4k) 2nd hand Noctilux f1.0 could in my opinion be used and sold later while maintaining its value.

However a 50 Summilux Black Chrome bought new and used for some time may not retain its value like perhaps a new unused one in years to come.

You are gambling on Leica never repeating this version again which I believe it has done but in different finishes like chrome (LHSA) and black paint.

In my uneducated opinion, purchased 2nd hand Leica lenses retain more value than newly purchased and used Leica lenses, naturally.

The "appreciation in value" days are over IMO, given Leica's ability to meet consumers demand with current production capacity.

There seems to be no shortage of new or good 2nd hand lenses like there was when the M8/M9 were released.

Its all conjecture on my part, but my advice is to carefully consider your needs and purchase the lens you think best suits your needs, then odds are you'll have no

reason to consider selling it unless moving from Leica.
