Remote release

Recommended Posts

None that I've heard about. It's a big limitation IMHO. I like doing macro photography using a tripod. I wish for the magnified view when manually focusing to not revert back to normal after a few seconds and I wish for a release cable. The iPhone app works, but is cumbersome and as you say batteries can run down. If only Leica had made the shutter button to accept a standard cable release like older cameras.

Kiwifotos make a variety of fittings for cameras that have no thread in the shutter release. One example is the version they offer for the Leica X2. CR-X2. Fleabay have these listed for a wide variety of camera bodies. I have a feeling that the design dimensions of this simple piece of plastic could be made to suit the Q and possibly produced and printed on a 3D printer.

I suggest looking at the principle of the design. It fits into the hot shoe, bridges the manual shutter settings and creates a support for the cable release above the shutter button without requiring the shutter button to be drilled and threaded. Simple!

Just received a mail from JJC Solutions, they make a Soft Release button with threads to attach Cable. looks good to me.

Following is the copy of received mail. Looks good, I am ordering :) $7.99 on eBay.

We suggest you to take SRB-M mount to stick the shutter release button; in this case, the camera will have a thread to accept TCR release cable.

Further thing we can help please let us know.

That was good detective work to discover the device. Can you please let us know how well it works when you receive it. Apparently a UK EBay seller has them in stock so I would also obtain a set.

Thanks.

I don't understand how that works.  You attach the mount with sticky tape to the shutter button.   Then you screw the cable into the mount.  But what does the plunger act against?  The mount is stuck to the button.

You have a reason...I don't know why the manufacturer suggested?

now i did order, so i will wait and see. But it may not work.

On follow up with Manufacturer after your remark, received following replay. which confirms it will not work.

Following is the copy of received E-Mail.

Hi Sunil Mehta,

We are very sorry that we made a big mistake.

SRB-M mount is designed to help SRB Soft Release Button to mount onto the camera shutter button, so we think that just need to attach this mount, the camera will have a female thread to accept TCR Threaded Cable Release.

But after our testing, we found that we are wrong. JJC TCR is closely connect threaded shutter release button for a shutter release. But if attach the SRB-M, TCR actually can’t achiveve shutter release, the force of the TCR will be stopped by SRB-M.

We are very sorry for our big carelessness, please cancel your order on eBay as soon as possible.

We are sorry again for the inconvenience has caused once again.

Best regards,

I don't have the camera here, but what happens if you select 'birding mode' (the preset with indeed an actual little bird)?

In principle it is set to switch to zoomed view from the paddle arrows instead of the manual focus (because being linked to a telescope you are supposed to stay focussed to infinite) : maybe it stays on?

To my knowledge this is the only feature in the birding mode, so maybe it remains compatible from everything else...

I confess I was ignorant of that mode. No joy though. It doesn't operate in macro. It basically sets the focus to infinity for taking photos of stars through a telescope. Manual focus is inoperative.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, just wanted to comment on the zoomed view when auto focusing. If you press the up/down arrow then the zoomed view stays permanently on the screen till you half press the shutter button. When in zoom mode if you press the centre button then you can change the zoom level between x3 and x6. You don't need to set the mode to digiscoping. That way you can operate the *permanent* zoom in macro mode too.

I just tried this and it doesn't seem to work for me.  If I press Up or Down, the zoom immediately is cancelled (Left/Right don't do anything).  The set button does change the zoom factor, but the zoom is still not permanent for me.  I wonder if some other setting or mode affects this?

Sorry for the late reply, I have been travelling quite a lot the last days!

The zoom will always reset after every time you press/half press the shutter release button. But if you are in manual zoom mode and you press the up/down button, doesn't the zoom stay on your screen until you take a shot? At this mode it should not reset back to normal every time you are doing manual adjustments to focus.

I use aperture priority, auto ISO and all the other settings to manual. V 2.0 firmware
