Dear all,

For the S lens that the AF motors are going kaput, how is Leica handling the situation ?

Replacing the motors free of charge ? Like the CCD sensor problem ?

Or charging a fee ? if so, more or less how much ?

Just wondering, since I'm contemplating buying a couple of S lens used and want to know if I need to budget a bit of money on the side for repairs or not.

Best

GP

You should budget for the amount of time it will take for repair (if it happens to you). Repairs take FOREVER with this company

Not everyone lives in the USA.

For me, in my backward country ( Russia), the AF fix took two and a half weeks, the shipping time included.

Well, I know that Leica US/NJ sucks. I live in Portugal. Repair time is great - first because we have the main Leica factory here ( most glass and M+SL stuff is produced in Famalicão factory, Portugal  ); second because its overnight shipping to Wetzlar. My Leica M9 cracked sensor was replaced last month, took less than three weeks, shipping included. Top notch.

Indeed. Nothing but praise here from Leica

  • 2 weeks later...

In my case, less than two weeks for an S and two lenses... including shipment. I call that pretty good,

The differences between Europe and the US are unfortunately (too) big... 2 months in my case for one lens...

Practical considerations like insurance and customs come to mind but it is an option.

Takes a bit more paperwork on your part, but Leica and the major delivery services (USPS, FedEx, UPS) provides the forms you need on their web sites. My turn around from Germany to back home is just over two weeks for the two repairs I've done there. Can't even get an email reply from New Jersey in that time period in my experience.
