Robinyuill Posted April 7, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 7, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. Has anyone information on the process of calibration of lenses to the camera body. I have a Monochrom and a number of lenses but I am becoming frustrated by the number of images that seem to be out of focus even though I have taken particular care when focusing the lens. I find my 90mm Tele Elmarit and 135 Apo the most common culprits. I know that they are on the limits of what can accurately be used on M cameras but do they all have to be sent to Leica Germany or can Leica in Mayfair do it. Any advice gratefully accepted. Regards Robin.

Dan Bachmann Posted April 7, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 7, 2017 I'm not sure if Mayfair can do it, but I had a 50mm lens that Red Dot Cameras sent out to be repaired in the UK for a problem with the aperture ring. It was always a few mm out on focusing at f1.4 ever since I 6 bit coded the lens. When it came back, the focus was spot on. It is my feeling that calibration of lens and camera should be done to base standards and not to each other. This also seems to be the thought of the Camera Clinic that we visited yesterday in Australia. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LocalHero1953 Posted April 8, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 8, 2017 (edited) Leica Mayfair cannot do it. They go to Wetzlar. It's worth doing your own tests to see where the problem lies. If you have the MM2 then it is easy: focus on subjects with the RF and the EVF and see if they match. Pick subjects at infinity, 10-20m and close up. If you can, pick a subject where you can see how far ahead or behind it is focusing, like distant roof tops, a fence at an angle or a ruler. Test all your lenses. If they all show the same focus error, the problem is likely with the body not the lenses. If you only have the MM1 then the process is more longwinded: carefully focus using the RF then download the images and see where the errors are. If they are consistent then it is equipment error; if random, then get your eyesight checked Edit: RF calibration error in the body is much more common than lens calibration error. Jeff S Posted April 12, 2017 Share #4 Posted April 12, 2017 If you conduct tests, do your best to eliminate user error....tripod mounted with clear and consistent target (for example, LensAlign). Jeff
Robinyuill Posted April 21, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted April 21, 2017 Hi there. late answer to the initial question. Camera sent to Leica and rangefinder was way out of alignment;. Just the wait for a return now. Thanks anyway for the answers.
