silverchrome Posted March 23, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello All, I recently discovered that my practically new Summilux 50mm has oil on the aperture blades. The warranty on this lens has long expired (it has been stored since I sold my M9) so I will have to pay to get it repaired. Does anyone knows how much Leica charges and how long it will take? I've contacted customer service but they won't quote me a price until they have examined it.
Advertisement Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Hi silverchrome, Take a look here Summilux 50mm ASPH Servicing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
B-A-C Posted March 23, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2017 This happened to mine as well. I understand it's common with this lens. In my case I didn't do anything and the lens has been perfect for 5 years. If you store it butt down wide open it may clear up. Sometimes mine does. Good luck.
LeicaR10 Posted March 24, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2017 Silverchrome, My Summilux had the same issue. I have given up on Leica Repair NJ long ago. I send my cameras and lenses to DAG Camera. He does great work, excellent prices and its done right the first time. Here is their link. You should call him first to get an estimate. http://www.dagcamera.com/contact.html r/ Mark
Jeff S Posted March 24, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2017 +1 for DAG (Don Goldberg). He fixed the sticky focus action on my 50 Summilux ASPH after Leica NJ said they could not. And he charged a mere $90, including shipping, and it was back in my hands in under two weeks. Yes, call first. Jeff
silverchrome Posted March 24, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted March 24, 2017 Thank you all for your replies. I did consider sending it to DAG, but I'm based in the UK and was put off by the potential paperwork involved in sending a high value item out of the country. However, I'll investigate further, and if it isn't too arduous, I'll give it a shot given his excellent reputation. B-A-C, I actually stored the lens wide open because that seemed to be the advice (of the web) a few years ago. Recent research seems to suggest otherwise! Who knows. jaapv Posted March 24, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 24, 2017 The to-go-to service in Europe is Will van Manen IMO. But there are others.
microview Posted March 25, 2017 Share #7 Posted March 25, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did consider sending it to DAG, but I'm based in the UK I'd say Malcolm Taylor is your man – talk nicely to him first, 01568 770542. He has done some very good, sometimes tricky cleaning/adjustment work on lenses of mine over the past few years. Quick turnaround if you get on together.
