When this lens came out, I decided to wait and see how others felt it performed before trying to get one. I now want one after reading as much as I can find. I am a big 50 prime fan and own several M versions. The reason I would like the SL version is weather sealing and AF. I would love a 35 SL prime but that is a long way out. What is the general feeling on availability for this lens. Are a lot of folks waiting for one? Does anyone know if any are available now?

if you want to get USA warranty, you'll have to wait a bit more since none of the vendor in the US seem to have it yet. However, if you don't mind Euro warranty, you can get it on ebay all day long. If you want to get it used, at lease there are 2 guys try to sell it now (can't seem to sell it since no one want to buy it due to the slow AF).

I personally know these 2 guys. They are legit.

btw, both of those sale, they're all Euro warranty.

I am not in such a hurry that I need to pay over the retail price. This is the first I have heard that no one wants to buy it due to slow AF.

AlexP and Almoore don't ....... nearly all of the rest of us are perfectly happy with it.

There are a number of posters who seem to be conducting a hate campaign against this lens

really? you want to do this crap again? I'm not here to make friend like you said on your other replied. I've own every single Canon/nikon pro bodies. Same with Sony A series, I'm not a fanboy for any brand. If the lens is slow, it is slow. Do me a favor, learn how to read again. Go back on ALL my of replies, have you seen one single thread that i said the 50Sl has bad optic? All i said this lens is SLOW. Even the guy from Miami Store said the same thing. READ his review again. At the bottom of his review, there are 2 pros (bokeh and color rendering) and at least 4 cons. I'm speaking of FACTs. I'm speaking from OWN the damn lens myself. I'm speaking as a user myself. NOT as fanboy like you. SO do me a favor, go shove that 50SL up your rear. You happy with it, so be it but don't start this crap with me.

how about being a owner of this lens myself? how about the listing being up there for awhile with no one to buy?

Perhaps no one wants to pay more than U.S. retail price for a lens without a warranty? This is not to imply anything disparaging to the sellers on fredmiranda linked above (I've dealt with both of them, and they are beyond reproach). The Leica international warranty (or US version for that matter) is not transferrable beyond the original owner. Leica does seem to be quite lenient on the issue for at least some products and issues (for example S lens AF motors, in my own experience). However, Leica is not under any legal obligation to do any repairs for anyone other than the original owner.

Hmmm. I though Leica warranties were (a) all international and (B) for the product not the purchaser for 2 years. Is that not correct.

It doesn't matter here, for me as with a copy of the reciept warranty must be honoured. It's the law in Oz. I just thought Leica had a policy that was world wide....

What should one read into the fact that this lense isn't readily available? Leica underestimated demand? Production difficulties? Lower priority than the M10? Crawl, walk, run release strategy? Typical or common experience with new Leica products?

I have no sinister motive! I'm just curious. The number of units in circulation seems low, both in absolute terms and relative to the number of SL users.

That is what I also thought. As long as you could produce a receipt of when the item was purchased new, it was covered. I also have some binoculars that have a lifetime warranty I believe. I will dig out the warranty card and try to find out.
