ynp Posted March 16, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 16, 2017 I have used the Mamiya version with the adapter for a tabletop shoot. It worked very well, but it's very expensive. I find the view camera are easier to use than a tilt/shift lens (in the studio). As a substitute with limited movements I use BALPRO bellows with a Digitar. It's more than three times cheaper than the 120/5.6 Asph.
John McMaster Posted March 16, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 16, 2017 I have it but it has had limited use, fussier to use than a view camera (which I no longer have), however I may be using it during the next couple of weeks.... john
John McMaster Posted March 16, 2017 Share #5 Posted March 16, 2017 Probably of more use on an S(007) rather than the CCD models, can you get live image on a computer screen? V/f gets a bit dark to get a full understanding of focus/DoF.... john
Photoskeptic Posted March 16, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 16, 2017 I have used the 90 version on a Nikon FX. I had quite limited success, imo, be prepared for a frustrated experience...it is not a simple nor straight forward device. I'm sure it can be conquered with much trial and error but it in no way resembles the Canon or Nikon counterparts.
ynp Posted March 17, 2017 Share #7 Posted March 17, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) So far, I like only one PC lens on my humble S2. It was a nice copy oh Mamiya 50мм. , only shift, no tilts. Stopped down is was ok. And my copy it not the optimally perfect. Tabletop work with tilt and focus bracketing is much better done with a bellows and and an enlarger lens, a macro digitar or a Zeiss 73mm. The short (bellows) version of the Leica 100mm/f4 is very good on a bigger chip of my s2. For me, the 120/5,6 is too dark and cumbersome Edited March 17, 2017 by ynp
John McMaster Posted March 17, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 17, 2017 I have the Mamiya 50mm shift as well, it is OK but nothing special compared to the S lenses. What bellows are you using with your S? I might try my Nikon PB-4 bellows (tilt/shift capable) with the 105mm f4 Nikkor-P using a battery of adapters - Nikon F > Leica M, Leica M > R, LeiKo R > S. A quick search showed no Nikon lens to Leica R body adapters, they would not be able to focus to infinity so maybe not available... john
ynp Posted March 17, 2017 Share #9 Posted March 17, 2017 Hi John, I use the BALPRO 1 Bellows Set from Novoflex. It was supplied with a Leica S adapter and the Schneider Kreuznach Apo-Digitar 90mm f/4.5 lens. I also have a Novoflex L plate and Castel cross. I have a 39l lens plate and I can mount my enlarger lenses. The kit was used for flat art copying after my Sinar kit was stolen. The Leica R plate can be bought from Novoflex as well. I don't have it, I have an adapter and fixed the 100 mm R bellows lens through the stack. The center of the image was fine, the corners were a bit dark, not unmanageable. I also bought the Actus mini, and it's a better view camera than the bellows from Novoflex. It allows some basic movements and is better designed. I cannot use my S2 on it and I want to keep the Novoflex bellows for my copy stand and the tethered shooting. And I agree with you that there is nothing better than the S lenses. If I save enough, I will return back to the Sinar, even if a smaller camera is adequate. Yevgeny
John McMaster Posted March 17, 2017 Share #10 Posted March 17, 2017 Thanks, I saw that was what you were using when I re-read the thread. I suspect the Nikon + 3 adapters will vignette, but I do not need this set-up very often. john
erlingmm Posted March 18, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted March 18, 2017 Thank you for the feedback and experiences. I decided not to take it, despite a very tempting price. Main reason that it could only shift in one direction, which means that if I were to simulate tech camera for panoramas, I would have to rotate the whole lens 180 degrees after center and left, to right shift, probably messing with focus. Too cumbersome. But optically very good.
John McMaster Posted March 18, 2017 Share #12 Posted March 18, 2017 Not sure what you are comparing it to? The Mamiya is the same, twist the lens 180 to make it shift the other direction... Not sure how that affects focus? john

R3D-D0T Posted March 19, 2017 Share #14 Posted March 19, 2017 It's manual focus, so you won't get AF motor issues heh
