millitorr.solutions Posted March 16, 2017 Author Share #21 Posted March 16, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hallo, it gets more and more confusing. How can I find out if it is a PROTO? Millitorr
Advertisement Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Hi millitorr.solutions, Take a look here Summicron, S/N 0000346. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted March 16, 2017 Share #22 Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) Maybe someone in Wetzlar... and WestLicht has a good channel of informations with the factory... I keep my opinion (mostly based on letters' style) that is not a "real" proto, but an "internal use" lens... which makes it anyway a valuable rarity (consider that Summicron 50 rigid in SM are anyway scarce items) Edited March 16, 2017 by luigi bertolotti
jc_braconi Posted March 16, 2017 Share #23 Posted March 16, 2017 I you have unscrewed the lens part from the body, have you noted some numbers scratched on black parts of the mount or on the lens ?
millitorr.solutions Posted March 17, 2017 Author Share #24 Posted March 17, 2017 Hallo, as mentioned before: I could take apart into 3 pieces. The only number on the lens head outside Millitorr
jc_braconi Posted March 17, 2017 Share #25 Posted March 17, 2017 Hallo, as mentioned before: I could take apart into 3 pieces. The only number on the lens head outside Millitorr Strange, usualy pretty all have numbers scratched inside by people who mount the lens
millitorr.solutions Posted March 17, 2017 Author Share #26 Posted March 17, 2017 Hallo, I got the feed back from Leica. no written info for that number, but that does not exclude the summicron from beeing extremly rare, they say. most likely, documentation is beeing lost for that periode. millitorr . jpattison Posted March 17, 2017 Share #27 Posted March 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) But you did say that "Ich habe von meinem Vater (Werksangehöriger Leitz)" so that is in your favour for it not being a fake. John
millitorr.solutions Posted March 18, 2017 Author Share #28 Posted March 18, 2017 Hallo, i think, that - in the "werksverkauf" nobody placed a fake lense - my father was aware of the meaning of serial numbers - the lense probbably was never in the assembly department, but one of the internal test versions from the develloppment department. I have presented the lens to Mr. Netophil, he was sure, having not a fake one, he even recommended not having the lense taken apart for checking the numbers! After hours of internet resaerch, it could be a proto for the sosta conversion, which is reported by bencarpenter. Finally it seems to be some rare sigularity lense! millitorr.solutions Posted March 19, 2017 Author Share #30 Posted March 19, 2017 Hallo, I have found a lense with the same capital letters, same style with SN 1400990 on the internet. since this is supposed to be within the first serial batch 1400001 - 1401000 to be sold to the market, the lense 0000346 might be a real proto????? millitorr.solutions Posted March 21, 2017 Author Share #33 Posted March 21, 2017 Hallo, it seems that proto numbers fit nicely into the sequence of produktion lenses Proto number earliest production Number _0000032 156501 _0000119 706001 _0000346 1400001 _0000574 1402001 _0000730 2176701 It looks to me, that everthing fits to a real prototype lense. wizard Posted March 21, 2017 Share #34 Posted March 21, 2017 Yes, I also believe it is a prototype lens, but there seems to be no difference to the later serial production lenses (I have one of those myself), so it is not a one of a kind prototype that never made it into serial production. Still, a collector will usually pay a premium for such a lens. How much of a premium is hard to say, however. If you really want to sell the lens, putting it up on the Westlicht auction seems to be a good idea. Good luck! Andy
jc_braconi Posted March 21, 2017 Share #35 Posted March 21, 2017 however. If you really want to sell the lens, putting it up on the Westlicht auction seems to be a good idea. Good luck! Andy I think Lars is already in line...
millitorr.solutions Posted March 22, 2017 Author Share #36 Posted March 22, 2017 Thanks to everybody who had contributed to my question. Now I feel like beeing trapped by the Leica virus. Even I have decided having the lens sold, I will stay as a close friend to the Leice Comunity. At the end, I thank my father, that he helped to get the LEICA flying. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
