war Posted March 7, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 7, 2017 Wow, nice images, especially the second one. As a kayaker, this is a very scary scene.
kalifornier Posted March 7, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted March 7, 2017 Looking at how fast it draws water down, it is scary to imagine being in the water anywhere near!
MarkP Posted March 7, 2017 Share #5 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) Thanks for posting this amazing place. Odd you two mentioned your discomfort as I found it spectacular but unnerving. I just looked this up as I had no idea this spillway was so large: 22m diameter at the top funnelling to 8m at the bottom with a drop of some 70m. A drowning apparently occurred in 1997 where a swimmer got dragged to the edge and lost her grip after holding on to the edge for 20 minutes - what a way to go! Platinum Darwin Award winner! http://tastelessphoto.com/urban-eploration/bellmouth-spillway-exploration/ What a feat of engineering (and stupidity by the climbers). Hardster Posted March 7, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 7, 2017 Thanks for this post and images. Very interesting links Mark. Agreed. This is certainly an amazing and alluring sight! Used to paddle both flat and whitewater. Quickly developed a very healthy respect for it and learnt to never underestimate the power of 'The (unyielding) Force'!

MarkP Posted March 13, 2017 Share #12 Posted March 13, 2017 I think Hades rather than Nirvana as this link I posted above demonstrates http://tastelessphoto.com/urban-eploration/bellmouth-spillway-exploration/
