hollisd Posted February 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are the black paint crons available anywhere, just curious if anyone knows if any of these lenses are still around As a designer I really like how the red numerals jive with the camera bodies
Advertisement Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Hi hollisd, Take a look here 35 f/2 ASPH black paint availability. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted February 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2017 They occasionally pop up in the various classifieds but I don't think you'll find a new one anywhere now. It's a nice lens. I bought one new around the time the M8 was released. I wouldn't have chosen black paint other than it was being sold at a discount to the regular Summicron. I stupidly sold it during the boom period (2011?) when lens prices reached silly levels. Around 2015 I started looking for another and considered buying a new in box example from an Ebay seller in Hong Kong but decided it was too expensive (I think it worked out nearly £3000). Leica then announced the special black chrome edition of the Summicron and I decided to buy that instead.
wattsy Posted February 28, 2017 Share #3 Posted February 28, 2017 As a designer I really like how the red numerals jive with the camera bodies The black chrome edition that I mention above also has red(ish) numerals. That lens is likely going to be easier to find the black paint millennium one.

Is there a weight difference or purely aesthetic? Is the latter aluminum construction vs chrome? Edited February 28, 2017 by hollisd

The black chrome edition is brass (like the silver chrome and black paint) and heavier than the standard black version which is anodised aluminium. TRIago Posted March 1, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 1, 2017 I really like the red numerals too. That's one of the reasons my lenses are silver. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
hollisd Posted March 1, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted March 1, 2017 Anyone have the black chrome 35 f/2 and think it's heavy compared to the aluminum version?
wattsy Posted March 1, 2017 Share #10 Posted March 1, 2017 Anyone have the black chrome 35 f/2 and think it's heavy compared to the aluminum version? I purposely chose the black chrome version because I wanted the extra weight (I liked the balance of the black paint one that I previously owned). However, it is noticeably heavier and, if I was buying a Summicron afresh, I would probably go with the regular aluminium version. I've grown to like the feel of my Leica when the weight seems more in the camera than in the lens (the camera without a lens at all feels perfect to me ).

a.noctilux Posted March 1, 2017 Share #12 Posted March 1, 2017 Anyone have the black chrome 35 f/2 and think it's heavy compared to the aluminum version? When the 35mm Summicron asph. came out, I liked them so much that I once had 3 color (that's foolish ). Now I don't have one, all are sold. Just for fun, I weighted them without hood or caps : black anodised 255g when the two brass based in silver chrome and titanium finish 336g I never have black chrome, but it may weight the same as silver chrome/TI As side note, my Summilux-M 1.4/35 Asph (I) only 306g so why I have sold all Cron 35mm Asph. a.noctilux Posted March 1, 2017 Share #13 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) Just in case... In my search, one Summicron-M 2/35 Asph. black paint in Paris is available second hand 2 600€ (not mine): https://www.photosuffren.com/optiques-en-monture-m/690-leica-summicron-m-235-asph-laqu%C3%A9-noir.html Edited March 1, 2017 by a.noctilux
a911s Posted March 1, 2017 Share #14 Posted March 1, 2017 The BP 35 f/2 is significantly heavier, but most of the weight is toward the camera so it balances well. It's also smoother to focus because of the brass. One of the best made Leica lenses.
NB23 Posted March 2, 2017 Share #15 Posted March 2, 2017 Bring on the black paint heaviness any time.
Gregm61 Posted March 2, 2017 Share #16 Posted March 2, 2017 Anyone have the black chrome 35 f/2 and think it's heavy compared to the aluminum version? I once traded a black anodized version for the chrome and the chrome version was noticeably heavier.
michaelwj Posted March 2, 2017 Share #17 Posted March 2, 2017 Some acetone will clear out the yellow paint ready for you to apply the perfect red! What could go wrong
jaapv Posted March 2, 2017 Share #18 Posted March 2, 2017 Black Zeiss lenses have red numerals as well.
Gregm61 Posted March 2, 2017 Share #19 Posted March 2, 2017 I'm not so sure that isn't just a Cosina-thing, as my "Voigtlander" 21mm f1.8 has the same red numbers, as do several other C-V models.
lct Posted March 2, 2017 Share #20 Posted March 2, 2017 All black ZM and CV M lenses have red numerals AFAIK.
