Popular Post fotografr Posted February 19, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted February 19, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Clyde Stubblefield, my longtime friend and one hell of a drummer, died today. He toured and recorded with James Brown in the 1960s and early 70s before settling here in Madison where he played with his own band and many others for decades. He was considered by many to be one of the ten best drummers ever and was sampled more than 1000 times for other recordings. The photo here was taken on a whim on my front porch in the mid-80s. He was one of the nicest people I've ever known. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/clyde-stubblefield-james-browns-funky-drummer-dead-at-73-w467805 Welcome, dear visitor! fotografr Posted February 19, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted February 19, 2017 Mike, Robert and Michael, thanks much. There was a page one obit story in our local paper this morning and in it Clyde's wife is quoted saying, "people always say he was one of the nicest people they ever met." Clearly I was not alone in thinking that.

RayD28 Posted February 24, 2017 Share #10 Posted February 24, 2017 Great portrait. Have not heard of Clyde but Bootsy Collins (Parliament/Funkedelics) played bass for James Brown and told many stories about Brown. I still listen to some Funk music and my wife just shakes her head and walks out of the room. Thanks for posting fotografr. BTW, wiki has a nice section on Clyde. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clyde_Stubblefield

fotografr Posted March 7, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Clyde was a one of a kind. Even those of us who knew him well have been surprised at the number of obituary stories appearing in major newspapers and music publications around the world.
