vegas2033 Posted February 16, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody, I recently acquired my first Leica M6 and decided to shoot a roll to test it out. When I was done with the 36 exposures, I turned the R lever down on the front of the camera and started rewinding. To my surprise, the rewind was extremely hard and I wasn't able to fully rewind all the film back in the canister. I ended up removing the bottom plate and removing the film by hand. Upon further inspection, I notice that my take up spool rotates only in one direction (the cranking direction). However, when rewinding the film back, it's almost impossible. I originally thought it would be the rewind lever but it works as expected and releases the first spool correctly (the one with the teeth). Should my takeup spool be able to rotate in both directions? Has anyone ever experienced this type of issue? Best

david strachan Posted February 16, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2017 The M6y rewind is pretty average. I find mine stiff and awkward to use too.

SilentShutter Posted February 16, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2017 (edited) Think Henry already posted the answer how to do it right. I owned Leica rangefinder from M3 to M6 and never had a problem. Maybe if you put in the film a little aslant it gives you some failure ? I only had a problem once with a Leica R7 - the rewind crank was loose and custome service had to fix it (for free) ! Wish you luck Edited February 16, 2017 by SilentShutter

vegas2033 Posted February 16, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted February 16, 2017 So I decided to waste another film and shot in at my desk just to make sure it was me the issue. As mentioned above, I probably didn't insert the film perfectly straight. Doing it again with a new film, the advance lever was much smoother and I was able to rewind the film back in its canister much easily. Thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate .
