Ivar B Posted February 15, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) A friend of mine owns both the 21 and the 24mm Summilux lenses, and I know that these lenses need filters in size S8 and S7 resp. We wanted to mount an S8 filter and I know that the filters are dropped in the lens hood. However, I felt somewhat uncertain if a spacer or something in the lens hood is needed? In particular the 21mm has a curved front element and I feared that the filter could fall a little down and touch the front element. Does anyone know? He had not kept the manuals for the lenses (perhaps someone has one?).
Advertisement Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Hi Ivar B, Take a look here Summilux 21 and 24 - series filters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
01af Posted February 15, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 15, 2017 The filter's rim is the spacer. With the Summilux-M 21 mm Asph you need to put the filter on in the correct orientation—the one where the filter glass is farther away from the front element. With most lenses that take Series filters, the orientation of the drop-in filter doesn't matter. With the 21 mm Summilux, it does.
darylgo Posted February 16, 2017 Share #3 Posted February 16, 2017 I also place filters in the orientation that O1af recommends fearing that the glass surfaces will rub The filters will rattle depending on the brand, a little spacer such as label tape will solve both issues.
