londonuk Posted February 14, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks to all who chipped in to suggest a Leica film camera to buy and keep. So, yesterday I went along to Red Dot cameras here in London, just to see what it looked like through an M2 and an M3. Both were very nice, the M3 being easier to focus, but I was finding as a glass wearer, I was having to peer into the corners to see the edges of the 50mm frame. I liked them both for different reasons. Then I asked the years of the cameras manufacture. The M2 just happened to be made in the year I was born, and that made the decision for me. I'm now the happy owner of the Leica M2 black re paint, as per picture here. I've also bought a Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM lens from Japan, which will arrive shortly. All I need now is a LTM to M Mount adapter and I'm all set up (any recommendations for the adapter)? and all for under my £1000 budget. Thank you to everyone here who took the trouble to make suggestions for me. Appreciated ! Welcome, dear visitor! willeica Posted February 14, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2017 Nice camera. Personally I find that, as a glasses wearer, the M3 50mm framelines are very easy to use. That being said, I also like the framelines on my M2 which, in addition, has framelines for 35mm, which is something of a favourite focal length for me. The Canon LTM lenses are very good. I have an LTM Canon 35mm f2.8 which is just as good as my LTM Leica Summaron 35mm f2.8. If the Canon 50mm f 1.4 has an infinity stop I would suggest an adapter with a cutaway edge. Ivor at Red Dot should be able to advise and supply you in this regard. William
londonuk Posted February 14, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted February 14, 2017 Thanks William, I hadn't considered RD for an adapter but I'll pop in and see. I agree, the M3 are not really difficult and it was a finely balanced choice, I could have easily have taken the M3, despite my glasses, I would have gotten used to it. Frase Posted February 14, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 14, 2017 Just go on ebay for an adapter, sometimes its a bit hit and miss but they are so much cheaper than the leica or voigtlander ones.
spydrxx Posted February 15, 2017 Share #5 Posted February 15, 2017 Enjoy your M2, it looks beautiful. The Canon lens is a wonderful lens as well, when stopped down 1 notch, much like the Summicron of that era. As far as glasses go, remember when your prescription changes, you may need to add a diopter to the viewfinder. I went for several years blaming the viewfinder until I screwed a diopter on and everything was crystal clear once again.
