ELDIA thread follow-up (more...)

I start my follow-up to the previous thread on accessories, with the FIAVI angle brackets. Citing Dennis Laney : "they were produced as from 1929 to support the Leica with the lens centrally over the panorama head for horizontal pictures, or to support the camera vertically for vertical pictures". I am a little ashamed after the images published in the previous thread by Alan, to only show the three FIAVI variations I had...

To follow is the TOOSF table tripod stand, opening to "L" shape and tilted by a milled setting screw, allowing both horizontal or vertical fixing of a Leica.

FIBLA and DOOLU are similar case (spirit) levels, the first dating 1929-35, the second one as from 1936. It could be slipped on the accessory shoe of the camera for horizontal views, or on the side shoe of the FIAVI for vertical shots.

The SDOOG is a rapid tripod fixing, the spring catch actuated by two lateral buttons allowing an easy and rapid dismounting. I must say that I had much admiration for this relatively simple accessory, that I saw as one of the best illustrations of Leitz creative spirit.

And I will finish for today in offering two photos (not captioned in my files) of the sliding bar I couldn't find trace of in Laney's work. I am really getting very old!

I do not understand what happened to my thread : I had duly detailed all images and added a few more. One more digital mystery! Here is the missing part.

The first four photos depict the FIAVI, old version first, then three different lengths and one with the FIBLA level spirit on the lateral shoe. Then comes the TOOSF table tripod. To follow, the FIBLA and DOOLU spirit levels, the latter one with its original red container. The SDOOG tripod rapid fixing is also shown dismounted. And finally the - unfortunately unidentified - sliding bar.

The "sliding bar" is well known as the FIATE stereo attachment, available from 1926.  See Lager and others for an overview, also Luigi C. in Classic Camara magazine May 1997. A very early 3 inch ( 150mm) version, FIARO existed but only one or a few have been found. The early 6 inch (300mm) versions have a centered mount, may have the fixing screw and are engraved in block letters. A later version has the mount near the end, has a fixing screw and is engraved with the condenser logo. In photo below, two early versions are shown, one has the fixing screw.

Below, the differing logos are shown, also the export ones are marked Germany.

The SDOOG is indeed a handy attachment. Available from 1935 to the mid 1950's.  As such, it was available first in nickle with block letters, then nickle with the condenser logo, and finally in chrome. On the right is the chrome version.

Of course it is the FIATE! Thank you for re-opening one of the blocked doors of my old brain.

Thanks to your - always fascinating and impressive - images, I realizes that my nickel SDOOG was probably a very old one : not only marked with block letters, but even lacking the "Germany" engraving.
