paulsydaus Posted February 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 9, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Film MP and M240 owner. Prior to that Zeiss Ikon. M glass, several including Noctilux. No going back now! Just tried M10 and SL in shop. They pretty much nailed the M10. ISO dial, thinner body and bigger viewfinder pretty much my big three ticket items (check my posts on here from 3 years ago). Only complaint with my current M240 setup is missing focus in the dark with optical viewfinder and Noctilux (this lens on a digital M with ISO dialled up to 800 or 1000 really exceeds the capacity of the optical viewfinder to even see focus at .95)! However EVF on 240 is pretty useless. Obviously prefer rangefinder but EVF a good fallback option for these situations. In shop, found hitting focus at .95 slightly easier/faster on M10, not considerably so but added size and brightness was noticeable and welcome. EVF considerably better on M10 obviously, mainly refresh rate. Delay/blackout also improved but still no match for standard SLR. EVF on SL insane, blackout better than SLR. I'm thinking the SL and Noctilux would be a total assassin in the night. Though I am a rangefinder guy through and through, being tempted by the dark side. Finances and partner probably say M10, as if I go SL it would be a second digital obviously. Unless all l-forum members want to send me $1? Lol. Need help. Advertisement Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Hi paulsydaus, Take a look here To M10 or SL. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MarkP Posted February 9, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 9, 2017 I've not had much problem using fast lenses wide open with the EVF-2 on the M240. The EVF for the M10 is certainly much better. Why not get the M10 with external EVF so you get the best of both worlds?
cirke Posted February 9, 2017 Share #3 Posted February 9, 2017 However EVF on 240 is pretty useless. The EVF could be much more better but it works perfectly, useless is a nonsense , the EVF is useful without it I'll never use my 135mm

The EVF of M240 is perfectly usable in slow and careful shooting mode. My issue with M240 is shuttershock (even when LV is off). Mainly with long lenses at certain speeds. This is because of lack of first curtain electronic shutter. This issue remains in M10 btw. Not sure whether SL has first curtain electronic shutter or not. Edit: With heavy tripod you can minimize the shock but you need to be aware of it. Edited February 10, 2017 by jmahto

Definitely shutter vibration is far worse in LV for sure. Not noticed any major issues in normal mode but you do need pretty fast speeds for maximum sharpness with Leica lenses, that's for sure! I agree, I've got some great shots on the 135 at f/3.4 with EVF2. However the time lost to blackout makes it really hard for portraiture in my experience... Both new cameras fair better but I was blown away by the EVF on the SL... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ECohen Posted February 10, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 10, 2017 I have a 240 so no experience with the M10 or SL. This camera with the EVF and LV is fine for me. This question really depends on what you want to do with your camera. The M is a manual rangefinder best used with in those limitations. I use the EVF for 5% of my shooting and it works great ,extending the limitations of the M The SL is more of an everything camera with its EVF, auto focus and zoom lenses. Decide what you want your camera for ...... then you have an easy choice.
