jrp Posted February 1, 2017 Share #5 Posted February 1, 2017 Apparently the current CEO ran the company like a large enterprise, rather than as a family firm, not taking the employees with him. http://www.finanznachrichten.de/nachrichten-2017-01/39804219-leica-chef-kaltner-hoert-auf-016.htm Hard to discern what that means: was he to "commercial", not allowing them to pursue their pet projects or pursue perfection? Seems a bit odd, since they have produced an excellent SL (albeit a bit slow with the lenses) and an on time M10 (compared to the 6m or so waiting for M240s to come through). What about the S line? wlaidlaw Posted February 1, 2017 Share #6 Posted February 1, 2017 Losing 9 CEO's in 18 years looks a tad careless. I agree with M9Reno's comment. Continuity and consistency of management direction for a smallish company like Leica is essential. At least we will have Dr. Kaufmann's very firm and knowledgeable hand on the tiller for the time being, which will be no bad thing. Perhaps Leica might be better seeking a COO (chief operations officer) rather than a CEO. With a "hands-on" majority owner like Dr .K, being CEO might not always be a very comfortable position or the easiest task. Wilson
willeica Posted February 1, 2017 Share #7 Posted February 1, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) It is good that Dr Kaufmann is available. The camera industry is going through a difficult time right now with the fall in camera sales and the growth of smartphones. Digital imaging generally is going through a lot of changes right now and we have not seen the end of it; see comments on this forum from Leica customers in respect of WiFi, GPS, firmware, Lightroom compatibility etc. Leica is not a charity and must succeed in a very competitive and evolving, but shrinking, marketplace. I agree with Alfonso's comment above. There may well be some personality issues associated with this present change but, looking at the long list of CEOs since 2005, one might be tempted to quote Lady BracknelI (The Importance Of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde) about losing parents. Ironically, Lady Bracknell was recently played in a cross gender casting by the President of the UK Leica Society, David Suchet. "To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness." leifoto Posted February 1, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 1, 2017 Hello forumites. I well would manage the company. 20 years don't complain of my leadership style. But I not from Germany, badly know language, the head of school of arts and from Russia. But there are a lot of ideas on enhancement of the camera, optics... Jeff S Posted February 3, 2017 Share #9 Posted February 3, 2017 Only insiders would know the needs and priorities. As an outsider, the cliche of putting customers (and customer service) needs first can't hurt. The Leica S would make a nice case study. wattsy Posted February 3, 2017 Share #10 Posted February 3, 2017 Maybe time for Stefan Daniel to step-up in an enhanced version of his current role? It sounds like the "CEO" position isn't one that works at Leica, with so many in and out the door since Dr Kaufmann bought the company.
david strachan Posted February 3, 2017 Share #11 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) They seem to be doing a good job at Leica...lots of new cameras and updates, lenses etc. Edited February 3, 2017 by david strachan
Ted Lemon Posted February 18, 2017 Share #12 Posted February 18, 2017 Maybe they should change their executive structure like this firm and ditch the CEO role. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-38982715
LMBSGV Posted February 21, 2017 Share #13 Posted February 21, 2017 Someone who will get the service department in the U.S. to actually do their job with the same excellence as their cameras.
