How can I tell that CCD has been replaced or not

Hi, I wanna buy a M9P. The seller told me that the firmware is 1.204 and the CCD should be new, without providing a service invoice showing that CCD has been replaced. How can I tell that CCD is new or not? I searched some discussions on Internet. Someone said he got his M9 firmware upgraded to 1.204 without changing the CCD. So, I am confused.....

 

Any suggestions and advice? Many thanks!

Does it really matter? Does the camera show signs of corrosion? If not, it is fine, if yes - Leica will give you a new sensor for free.

Leica Germany said there is no record of this camera. I was told that CCD might be replaced in USA. However, the record in USA is not available.

It matters to me. So far, there is no sign of corrosion. We know that the corrosion probability of M9/M9P is very high. If it happens in future, it takes too long (to me) to get it repaired. And, will Leica replace the faulty sensor for free, even for m9/m9P from 2nd hand market?

Leica will replace the sensor for free even if bought used. I was quoted 3/4 weeks to have my sensor replaced (column of dead pixels) I know it sounds like a long time but they also re-calibrate everything at the same time for free. I'm waiting for a time I might not 'need' my Leica to take it in. It might be a good excuse for me to shoot more film

How do you know it is very high? My sources claim about 10%, and it appears to have slowed down to a small trickle, i.e. most sensors that were going to corrode have done so and have been replaced.

You are correct to worry that your new purchase may have to be sent away sooner or later! BUT Yes. They will replace a faulty CCD sensor irrespective of how often ownership has changed. Im assuming you are in Germany. Is that correct?

I'm not sure sensor corrosion is probable, but it is certainly possible if the sensor has not been replaced with one not susceptible to corrosion.  A poll on another forum queried users regarding Leica CCD corrosion and the majority had not experienced it.

Of course, I have no accurate statistics. It is just based on my local information and personal feeling (may be wrong): the number of corrosion cases of my friends or someone I know is much larger than that of non-corrosion cases. Thank you for your information.

I am in Hong Kong. Does the living place matter to get CCD replaced? THX.

Not at all, but I would advise you to try and deal directly with Wetzlar.

I did buy my M9 2nd hand and Leica replaced its sensor free of charge. Go for it.
