karla1 Posted January 23, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm considering buying a secondhand Leica Q. It has a small paint chip missing on the front of the camera. How much do you think it would be to fix this?

earleygallery Posted January 23, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2017 About £1.99 - to buy a small pot of model enamel or some black tape!
Herve5 Posted January 23, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 23, 2017 To me the main issue os not the paint chip, it's the mechanical behavior now the camera has been shocked. I believe what you should check carefully is the autofocus system, the OIS (anti blurring) activation, and even the auto f-stop. Activate and deactivate them, listen the noises, see the effect on a real picture that you take. I think nothing else "moves" in the cam, so unless a terrible shock misaligns the lenses (which would obviously show @100% size on the pics) you should be OK with these. And if the seller doesn't want to let you test this way, given the cost of the cam : let him die.
Guest jvansmit Posted January 24, 2017 Share #4 Posted January 24, 2017 if the underlying metal is scratched then the warranty may be compromised. My warranty was voided when I scratched the bottom of the camera along some concrete a year ago. The scratch was 2-3mm long which I didn't think was at all significant but Leica thought otherwise. millsart Posted January 24, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 24, 2017 Bear in mind that a fully functioning Q will produce some noises, knocks etc, so don't automatically assume the worse just because it makes noise. They all do that
