Photo Mechanic & SL DNG files?

Hi,

Anyone using Photo Mechanic? Reall like it, always did. The only issue I had with it is that Leica DNG files are not properly previewed ( as very small )

Because of that I had to shoot DNG + Jpg and that is a bit annoying.

PM support said that it is not up to them, but the problem was with Leica, who "did no put large jpg previews in the DNG files"

M9, M240 and SL - all the same thing.

But today I had chance to play with M10 DNG file and - whoooa - I was able to preview them just fine in PM!!

So they did change something ( Leica ) ? Nothing changed with PM - still not able to preview SL dng's in full size...

What do you do ( if you use PM)?

Thanks

Which version of PM are you using?, I just checked and Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 18040 previews fine, I can move the preview image size slider and PM keeps up and when I use the magnifying glass I can click the zoom box and zoom immediately to 200% etc

I shoot DNG only btw

In preferences > Preview and tick 'enlarge photos to fit....' and High DPI Display Quality > Best

In preferences > Contact Sheet, click 'Generate High Quality thumbnails'

Try that

Thanks, but it doesn't seem to help. I have PM v5 build 13507

Btw I cannot find "High DPI Display Quality" option in my version. All other options ticked. The only difference is that the image would now be enlarged to fit my

screen, but pixelated since they reads something like 134% of their full size and it should be only 16% ( as jpg file )

Honestly I do not understand how it could work to you - I just tried another option: "Tools - Extract JPEG previews from RAW photo" and the extracted jpg photo is really small: 720x480 px!

And this is exactly what I see in PM, if I only shoot DNG

There's no full-size preview jpg file in the SL dng file!

But if I do the same exercise with M10 dng file, I get a fine full-sized jpg?

I shoot DNG only and PM works fine with a Retina MacBook Pro.  Type Q when previewing and you will get PM to generate its own rendering of the DNG.  Not sure whether the JPEG size affects the DNG preview if you are only creating DNGs.

Thanks, but typing Q on my Windows 10 machine does just... nothing

Nevertheless, it works fine with M10 files - so Leica must have changed something!

Sounds odd, go to Help > Software Update and let it download the latest version. maybe the one you have is prior to the SL?

I could certainly try that...but on the other hand it is for sure a version of PM that's prior the M10 - which works as it should...
