Does this mean video is relegated to the SL line, and the M is "pure" photography? Or will the M240 type M be sold concurrently?

My feeling is the former, which will sure make some people unhappy.

On another note, the M-D version of the M10 will be sweet. Nice and thin once all the screen and bottoms are removed!

I was told, by the same people how announced the M10 in November, which alas could not be delivered at that time ( although the testing of the M 10 was already in October ) that the M 240 type will exist next to the M 10 .

I don't know if my source lost it value the moment the M 10 was not announced in November although.

Also good from the leica blog...

M10, meaning the optimal distance of the eye from the viewfinder, is distinctly greater than on the M ( Typ 240). Consequently the finder offers improved viewing comfort, especially for anyone who wears glasses. At the same time this enabled us to reintroduce the 0.73-times magnification.

@Andreas, thanks for all the pictures from the event.  Including Jono dodging the guys with white gloves.

@Jono, you didn't comment on how the M10 labels its files.  It looks like one SD card is supported, inserted from the bottom as always, so is the procedure for naming files also taken from the M240 firmware?  Is the battery the same as was used in the M9, or a new shape and connector configuration?

also, does the M10 write a DNG 1.4 (which can include lens-specific corrections for distortion and LCA) as the SL does, or the older style as the M240 does?  Something in Sean Reid's review makes me suspect that the files will be in the newer format.

No USB port, no access to a USB via a grip. This is game over. EOL for the M and professionals. Very, very, very unhappy.

I am convinced that cameras are now like running shoes. Runners often stock up on their favourite model for fears it will be "upgraded" to something they don't like. Running shoe technology is pretty mature, so new ones are just different, not always better. Just like cameras :)

Will we see a run on M240's?

Let's take a look logically at what the M10 really provides.

Slimmer body like a film M, ISO dial where the film rewind knob would be, higher ISO, wider viewfinder and focus peaking.

In reality, will any of these help you take better pictures, rather than a good photography book or some lessons? I doubt it.

What we actually have is an M240, with some tweaks.

Still, even those with 5 other M's (and the money) will buy it, mainly because they believe that is what you are supposed to do, progress and all that.
