dickgillberg Posted January 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I took a couple of pictures of my water damage Leicas, they have still sand left in them. It has been 12 years since the tsunami in Thailand. Me and my family where very lucky to survive the tsunami, just being on the right place at the right time. We lived at the second floor and the water came all the way to the coat hanger in our room. Welcome, dear visitor! Doc Henry Posted January 17, 2017 Share #7 Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Dick, and the insurance ? no insurance ? Is it too damaged ? Maybe send a picture to Wetzlar to see what they can do and if the insurance has paid better to buy new or second hand in mint condition. I have exactly the two cameras .... and the tsunamis is not finished Rg H Edited January 17, 2017 by Doc Henry
SilentShutter Posted January 17, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 17, 2017 I would not repair them. Keep them like they are and be thankful you had a guardian angel. Family is all that matters, everything else can be replaced.... Wish you all the best !
mikemgb Posted January 18, 2017 Share #9 Posted January 18, 2017 A very poignant reminder of what you survived, these cameras tell the story of that day. I am guessing you keep them looking like this as a reminder of that day and what could have, but very fortunately did not, befallen your family?
dickgillberg Posted January 18, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted January 18, 2017 Thanks for your replies. Yes we are ok today. I actually send them to Leica when I got home, but the salt water made it not possible to do a repair. To much corrosion. Fortunately I've got insurance so I could get new cameras. I keep them as a reminder. When I send other Leicas to Weztlar for service I present my self as the man with the tsunami Leicas, then they know who I am
