What do you use the SL for that your previous camera could not do?

All points above plus very fast lifeview - the fastest by far.

Indirectly (EVF quality and speed and lifeview) the best camera for macro photography.

Clearly better for manual focusing. ("The best modern AF camera for manual focusing*)

Plus ability to adapt hundreds of "foreign" lenses. (First time ever I had Leica and Zeiss on the same camera body for a direct comparison.)

I do the same things with my SL that I've done with all my various cameras for the past fifty years. Surprise surprise ...  :D

It works with/produces better results from my R system lenses compared to any other camera I've adapted them to, and in some ways better than the R bodies I used them on originally.

The SL simply works better to do all those same things for me.

Not a lot.

As an all-round package that can utilise superior Leica optics it has more to offer than many other cameras.

I did dump my Nikon gear as I was fed up carrying big cameras and lenses .... and shifted to an M9/M240/monochrom with tiddly lenses.

Looks like I've come full circle and am vastly poorer at the end of the process ....  :p

Anyway, taking the big black lump out with the 24-90 or 90-280 is a real pleasure .... and that's really what counts ..... oh ..... and the images quite good as well ....

For me, the SL was a replacement for my M(240).  Here is what I liked:

- Availability of AF for those situations where it's required (using the 24-90)

- Better control over critical focus with 'M' lenses since the viewfinder is a thousand times better than the EVF-2, and my eyesight no longer allows LV to be effective without reading glasses

- Weatherproof

- Slightly better high ISO performance (not a big deal, though)

- Ability to accurately frame with ultra wides and with long lenses; heck, even an moderate focal lengths a rangefinder doesn't provide really precise framing

- Ability to use 'R' lenses with a decent viewfinder

- High frame rate is occasionally useful, as when photographing my daughter's riding events

Here is what I gave up:

- It's larger and heavier than I would like

- There are situations where I prefer a rangefinder to TTL viewing--even when the viewfinder is very good

I'd say that just about covers it.  Oh, I'm actually enjoying the built-in GPS and WiFi as well, though I don't consider either of those critical.

Focusing my Noctilux!

Exactly that, and now hopefully the 90mm APO as well.

The IQ isn't as good as the S007 but it sure as hell is a dream to walk around with rather than lugging that great big lump of iron around...........Its going to be the ideal companion for the Hasselblad 503CW when traveling and shooting in the street :) :) :)
