orc999 Posted January 10, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello did anybody work with S lenses on the SL? The adapter provides AF, and comes at a quite high price tag. Suprisingly few lenses are lighter then the 50mm Summilux and maybe at the same pricetag or even cheaper in some used departments. 70mm non CS lens could be such a candidate. Considering the high price for lens and adapter: how is AF and handling on the SL?

meerec Posted January 10, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 10, 2017 I cannot answer your Q however I know I'm waiting for the SL-75 cron to be released soon, around June.
Bill W Posted January 10, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 10, 2017 I have used the adapter with my S100 lens. Everything works but the AF is a lot slower than the native zoom 24-90. It is slower than using the 100 on my S. I think this is what others have found as well. AF aside, I have several prime lens to use on my SL and a 70 is a 70 on the SL.
Vieri Posted January 10, 2017 Share #4 Posted January 10, 2017 I work with S lenses on the SL quite often (24mm, 35mm, 70mm, 30-90mm). IQ is great, AF is a bit slower than on the native S (Typ 007) camera. You can see a couple of articles on my blog: https://vieribottazzini.com/2016/09/leica-super-elmar-s-24mm-vs-leica-vario-elmarit-sl-review.html comparing the 24mm S with the Vario-Elmarit-SL at 24mm; https://vieribottazzini.com/2016/08/leica-s-adapter-l-review.html a write-up on the adapter. Hope this helps! Best, Vieri

Considering weight of the adapter, performance, aperture compared the 24-90 it looks like there is no point in going that route to adopt S lense instead of SL lenses in the range of 24-90. Vieri Posted January 11, 2017 Share #6 Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) Great, Thanks! Well, to me the adapter makes a lot of sense if you already have / plan to get into / the S system, and plan to get / or have / the SL as well. This way, you can optimise your bag and bring two bodies with 1 set of lenses; or, it might make sense if you found a great deal on some S lenses and have an SL body to use them with. If you don't have an S or aren't thinking about getting one, however, I wouldn't recommend to get S lenses for the SL as your only set of lenses; the SL native lenses and M or R lenses work great, are smaller, faster and probably less expensive as well. Hope this helps, best Vieri Edited January 11, 2017 by Vieri
