FeralCoton Posted January 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I got a new 24mm elmar for my mp240. It works wonderfully but I noticed that when I focus the lens to infinity, the central rangefinder patch does not seem completely in focus (as though I need to move the lens ring a bit more). I don't think it's the camera as the central patch is fine with my 35mm and 50mm. The shots with the 24mm are fine, but the central patch doesn't quite align. Is this normal as I know the 24mm exceeds the rangefinder field of view? Advertisement Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Hi FeralCoton, Take a look here Infinity focus and the 24mm elmarit. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rsolomon Posted September 24, 2019 Share #2 Posted September 24, 2019 I know this is an older thread, I'm experencing the same situation and results...... focus patch off, photos are spot on. I would not think this is normal - do I need to bring to Leica repair?
a.noctilux Posted September 24, 2019 Share #3 Posted September 24, 2019 I don't have the Elmar-M or Elmarit-M 24mm but some other Leitz/Leica wide lenses. Nothing wrong with that small discrepency between the lens setting and the "patch at infinity", if the two are within the dof scales. Welcome, dear visitor! Let's have a look at the large "tolerance": - at f/2.8 (at left) the dof goes to 5m - at f/3.8 ( Elmar-M at right) the dof can go from 3 - 5m I'm sure that your lens is "better" than that 😉 setting to infinity 😇
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! rsolomon Posted September 29, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2019 Thanks! after doing some trial checking do you think it’s possible the issue is related warmer weather and/temps? crazy but when I first use the lens rangefinder patch seem spot on, afternoons after using rangefinder patch is out. could heat cause the misalignment? Peter Kilmister Posted September 29, 2019 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2019 I am rather pleased to say that living in a temperate, yet sustainable, climate we are unlikely to find any problem with extremes of heat or cold on an island in these latitudes. I own a 24mm Elmar f/3.8 and it focuses perfectly whatever the weather.
lexontario Posted September 29, 2019 Share #6 Posted September 29, 2019 You are in the USA, I would call or email Leica USA and ask them as the lens is new, it is under warranty. I have 28 f2,8 bought new and no issues with it or my 50 cron. 50 APO and 21 sem mounted on my MP240 Here is a link to a prior discussion about focus at infinity
