Where are all the compact primes for the T/TL?

I love the size of my newly purchased T with the Summicron 23/2. I don't think I can love the 35/1.4 on my T as it really can't be considered compact anymore. The 60mm looks nice, but it too is rather large.

Right now, I can shoot with my 'cron-M 35, I like the combo, but it's manual focus. My MS Optics Sonnetar-M 50/1.1 is fun too. But also MF.

So, where are the compact AF lenses? The Summicron 35/2? How about a 50/2?

Come on Leica! You've made a really cool, lightweight, beautifully designed travel camera. Why would I want to stick a lens the size and weight of a soda can on the front of it?

+1.  Leica should do like Fuji, i.e. in addition to the 23/2 also release a 35/2 and a 50/2: lightweight, inexpensive, high quality, weather resistant lenses with fast AF.

It would increase the popularity of the Leica T platform significantly IMHO.

In our dreams and has been discussed in other forum threads. TL mount Telecentric AF lenses of focal length 35mm and longer will likely always be relatively large compared to equivalent focal length manual focus M lenses. The mount will always be large diameter to accommodate telecentric optics; telecentric optics to ensure edge sharpness will always be wider diameter than e.g. Leica M manual focus lenses; and the AF motor further increases lens size.

The Fuji 35mm f1.4 is not a large lens.  The Fuji 35mm f2 is even smaller.  I can't comment on the latter but the former is an excellent lens in my book.

Fuji design philosophy is very different to Leica's .  What suits Fuji does not / would not necessarily suit Leica … and Fuji does not make a full frame ICL mirrorless camera. People seem to ignore the fact that the SL/TL mount is a dual mount for both Leica FF and APS models . Leica's mount is likely more future proof than Fuji i.e. Fuji mount would not suit FF.

Hi Dunk,

Just like the Leica T the dual mount is a great concept but will it ever reach its full potential?

As a Leica SL shooter I can clearly see the benefits of the dual mount which is one of the mean reasons why I am keeping my T and its lenses.  I potentially see a lot of SL shooters buying into the next generation TL if Leica ever gets to that.

If I were a Leica T only shooter I am not so sure whether the dual mount would have a lot of advantages.

In any case, smaller lenses please, I fully agree with the message of the OP, I am sure the 35mm and the 60mm are excellent lenses but they are too large (and too expensive).

Best, Joris.

I also wish the 35TL was more compact, but after some time using I just forgot its size and enjoy using it.

The TL/T - even with a 23mm - isn't a pocket camera anyways.

However I also would prefer if the 35 and 60 were smaller. They achieve pretty compact sizes for the Zooms though.

In the camera world you can't have your cake and eat it

For APS-C the only games in town are Fuji, Sony and Leica.

Fuji have an excellent range but I never got on with the x-trans. Sony has the best sensor and functionality but a quality lens range for APS-C which is poorer even then Leica. The Leica T gives you the purity of body with excellent but few lenses but I agree f2 versions of 50mm and 28m would be great for size, but I would prefer a 23mm f1.4 if possible ...

The 35mm f1.4 is an ok size for me. It looks stunning in silver with a silver body. But I am not paying those ridiculous prices new (IMHO why the system growth has not been what the T deserves - Leica's T lens pricing policy. Oddly I think the body is rather good value) ... waiting for second hand ....
